A calcium product I highly recommend

By

Almost 2 years ago, I fell down and broke my foot.  It was a bit random how it happened, and it wasn't fun at all.  It was incredibly inconvenient, and costly from a business standpoint.  I couldn't walk nor could I drive.

Healing quickly was a key priority.  I did a lot of research, and I did whatever I could to heal quickly (including not putting weight on it for 2 weeks, having lots of calcium and eating better and having more vitamins that would help my bones grow back faster. )

So, when it came to calcium, I wanted to do whatever I could to make sure my body absorbed it the best it could.  Hint:  Having vitamin D at the same time helps, avoiding caffeine helps, and not having too much calcium at once helps (your body can only absorb a little bit at a time).  So how do you solve that without having to eat bits throughout the day????

Simple.  My mom recommended this product called Citracal and she had been using it for years based on her Doctor's recommendation.  And, Voila!  It is a slow release product which means it automatically gives you small doses throughout the day.

So, now I've been using this product for close to 2 years.  And, I have been telling people about this.  And, of course, now that I've been through this trying experience, every time I see people with broken bones, I'm much more sympathetic and helpful.  In fact, I notice it much more.  I tell them about this calcium product because it's great - both for healing bones and for maintaining bone health.

I've been buying in my supermarket, but I just searched for it on Amazon, and of course, it's much less expensive there, so I think when I need to get more, I'm going to order it there.

So, that's my public service announcement for the day.

I am a fan of eating right and not supplements, but I suppose as I get older it might become necessary.  I broke some bones here and there in my life, but I don't think more calcium would have helped in any of those cases.

This is a great reminder as my doctor keeps reminding me of the importance of more calcium. I am off to check it out on Amazon!

Debbie, When we have a need we find a way to fill it. I take a lot of vitamins and supplements, including Vitamin D and Calcium.  I remember the ordeal with your foot. I cannot believe it has been almost 2 years ago.  Good Grief!

Dr's are all over the map on this topic Debbie Gartner . I have sever osteoporosis and take two expensive prescriptions for it (have for about 20 years now). I have to have a bone density test every 2 years. The Dr's tell me there is NOTHING over the counter that would do me any good. Funny thing is when I was a younger  I drank more milk than anyone I knew and as an adult I had heart burn so much I went through a large bottle of Tums a week (Tums are calcium).

Well, thank you Debbie for your public service announcement! I'll have to remember that - although I hope I won't have a need for it! Cutting down on caffeine... that would be an issue.

Tammy - Eating right is of course best, but often getting enough calcium is challenging...especially if you hate milk (like I do).

Libby - Yes, I guess it can be more of an issue as we age.

Kathleen - I know.  In August, it will be 2 years.

Bob - Yes, I was taking Tums for a while for same reason.  Do whatever is right for you.

Andrea Bedard I would go crazy cutting out caffeine.  No, that's not what I meant.  I meant, don't take your calcium pills at the same time as your coffee.  That one I learned in College (I took a course on nutrition.

George - this is good for preventing osteoporous.

Debbie- I remember your broken foot.  Glad that your parents were near and you could stay with them.  I've heard of Citracal but did not know they made a time-release tablet.  Going to look into this one.

Good morning Debbie. You make such great sense. I fortunately get my calcium with the milk that I have in my breakfast drinks that I make daily.

Good morning Debbie Gartner,

I remember when you fell and how your folks helped out. I've been taking Citracal for years! Great way to obtain calcium slowly released through the body. I caught your post when Roy Kelley re-blogged..so glad he did!

I haven't found the need for Citrical yet, Debbie Gartner , but your endorsement is noteworthy. Sandy still just throws me a bone and tells me to go lay down in the corner.
