Blackberry Winter???

Hi Ya'll...Ok I have always heard of Blackberry winter and Dogwood winter. And as I type this morning it is a very chilly 35 degrees. My question is this...It this really what they call blackberry winter even though, according to my husband, the blackberries have not bloomed yet.

Even on our local news station, he said it was "blackberry winter" and this would be the last "cold" snap of this season (which I sure hope is so, since I had to go out last nite and cover a few plants because of possible frost).

So guys...give me your thoughts on all of these "winters" and is this just a "southern thang"?

Patty, I remember  about nine years ago, we had a spring just like this and they called it a blackberry winter then to. My Grandmother would always have sayings like that. Who knows where they actually came from! So my vote is just a southern thang.

Hi Sharon-this has been around for awhile for sure...I just hope it is the last "winter" for the rest of the year! I'm ready for warm weather and the lake! Thanks for the comment!

Hi Chuck...I love them too except I go out and pick them. I have a customer who makes jelly with blackberries and he gave some to me and it was excellent....thanks for the comment!

Patty:  Just when I think we've had our last cold snap, here comes another one.  We usually go from cold to too hot, seems like overnight.  Since we are on the subject of blackberries, Have you heard of Blackberry Ridge?  The new restaurant in Blue Ridge.  Give it a try, I think you will like it.
