Be prepared-for mountain lions or other happenings

By

You just never know when you'll need to put into practice lessons you've learned, whether in business or simply out for a hike.

mountain lion kill on Black Mountain, Santa Clara Co.

Last week one of my hiking buddies had an encounter with not one but two mountain lions!

Fortunately, his outcome was much better than this deer's.

You'd have to know Warren to appreciate and imagine what the encounter must have been like, and to understand why this is one of the highlights of his 89 years.

He recounts that when he and the second lion had a standoff, his training about what to do in such a situation kicked in; he acted and the lion walked off.

This gut reaction of putting into practice what one has learned makes me think of the hours my business buddies and I would role play different buyer/seller objections. One day I found myself saying the exact words that we had practiced.

Being prepared--good in business and in life.

I couldn't agree with this message more.  We must be prepared.  It might NOT happen, but the chances are in business and life that sooner or later it will happen and we better be prepared.

Hi Will Hamm - Warren is a wonderful, feisty man - few would believe he's 89 years young!

Good morning Tammy Lankford, - Yep, be prepared, in business and in life. It pays off.

Good morning Lottie. If you are out there, you have to be prepared for that kind of encounter, I would be packing for sure.

Guns aren't allowed in our local parks and I'm certainly glad of that--I hate to think what awful accidents would occur. Mountain lions generally are scared off, as happened here.

Being prepared, knowing what to do in a variety of situations, both in business and in life, is essential.

Lottie,

What a great analogy.  We have mountain lions here also, as well as bobcats and other interesting creatures of the wild...being prepared is one of the things we all should practice.  It is essential as you say.  A

Hi Lottie - A couple of years ago, a mountain lion and her cub casually strolled through our neighborhood, and we have also seen bears, so possible interactions are never far from my mind, particularly on those nights when I take the garbage container down to the curb. I usually make that trip with one of my Labs.

No bears in my area, Dick Greenberg  but mountain lions are definitely increasing. I won't hike by myself at dawn or dusk, and would hate to come between a mother and cub.

Lottie- being prepared is so important in our private as well as our business lives.  Larry was out hunting years ago and leaned against a rock to take a break.  He sensed something and turned around and there was a mountain lion approaching. I'm glad he was prepared.

Lottie if we practice something enough it then becomes second nature to us, whether it be reacting to a lion, or knowing what to say to a client.

Yes Lottie, being prepared is essential in business and in life.  We do have some of those "what to do when meeting a big predator" talks with our people too.

Kathy Streib - what's the rest of the story? What did Larry do?

Hi Lou Ludwig - being prepared, whether it's knowing what to do should you meet a mountain lion, or how to answer something like, "will you lower your commission?" is valuable.

Hi George Souto and Bob Crane - you've got it!

The wildlife around here has so much room and so much natural food. Encounters do happen, but they are fairly uncommon. You will see bears and mountain lions from your car. That is my preferred way of viewing them.

Hi Debbie Laity - the mountain lion population is growing in our area; suprising considering how highly populated it is.

Rebecca Gaujot, the Go To Realtor® - we're told often to make one's self large, to wave arms, make noise - Warren remembered.

Hi Patricia Feager - the story is even more remarkable when one realizes that Warren is 89 years old, still out hiking the trails we love so well.

I clicked LIKE Lottie Kendall .  I read somewhere in some state, that recently, a jogger got attached by a bear.  Never heard of any one getting attacked by any wild animal, except maybe a 'fighting chicken', popluar illegal sport here or chased by a wild boar when they were hunting them.

I'd rather meet a mountain lion on the trail than a wild boar, Bruce Hicks  - lions don't want contact with humans, boars are just plain mean.
