July 4, San Diego County Fair 4th of July Celebration

What better place is there to spend Independence Day than at the San Diego County Fair? Start the day with a patriotic Opening Ceremony around 9:30 am at the O’Brien Gate. Complete the day with a traditional fireworks display, which will happen at approximately 9 pm. The fireworks display is visible throughout the fairgrounds, so as long as you’re outside, there’s no better place to watch!

July 4th, Big Bay Boom Fireworks Show

The largest display in the county, with fireworks launched from four barges strategically placed around North San Diego Bay. Fireworks can be seen from Shelter Island, Harbor Island, the Embarcadero area and Seaport Village/Coronado Landing. Just find a place along the bay!

July 4, Rancho Bernardo’s The Spirit of the Fourth

The Spirit of the Fourth festivities take place throughout the day at various venues in the Rancho Bernardo community. There will be a community fair, contests, shows and a lavish fireworks display at 9 pm. Seating for the fireworks display is on the grass and it is suggested that those attending bring blankets or lawn chairs.

July 9–10 and July 16–17, 63rd Annual World Championship Over-The-Line Tournament

Over-the-Line Tournament! Over fifty years of adult sandbox play. A form of rugged sand softball play, over 1,300 three-person teams play on 50 mini-courts over two consecutive weekends. Crowds of people in beachwear gather to watch the games amid music and beer. Admission is free. You must be 18+ to play (there are nine age divisions). OTL is a public event and is free to attend as a spectator.

July 10, 35th Annual Carlsbad Triathlon 2016

Carlsbad Triathlon ranks among the nation’s longest running triathlons and is for everybody: from first-timers to elites as well as their friends and family. It is a sprint distance race, consisting of a 1K open water ocean swim, which is well-marked with buoys, followed by a 25K bike and a 5K run. The roads are wide and closed to traffic—very safe! The course is mostly flat with a couple of rolling areas.

July 15, Del Mar Racing Opening Day

More than 40,000 race fans are expected to attend what is defined as one of the most fabulous, fashionable and fun festivities in the west—Opening Day at Del Mar. This day is not only about big bets and fast horses, but also about celebrating the season in style. July 16, 13th Annual Bake at the Lake

July 23–24, Annual Insect Festival 

This one-of-a-kind event features thousands of fascinating creepy-crawlies including live insects, lizards, snakes, and the famous “Madagascar hissing cockroaches.” Children can practice bug collecting, make hands-on insect arts and crafts, and even taste cooked mealworm larvae in various flavors such as mesquite, teriyaki, and barbeque. Entomologists and other bug experts will be available for questions, and more than 20 informational booths will teach and entertain children and adults alike.
