"A Day for Surprises"
by
Dorothy M. Lamson
Looking forward to celebrating my mother's 92nd birthday soon!
Over the years she's written a lot of short stories about several wild animals she took in as pets as she was growing up on the farm, including the true stories about:
"Loreena the Talking Parrot," and
"Oscar the Woodchuck"
She has always dreamed of having those stories published.
So this year we're doing something really special...and it's going to be a surprise.
We are presenting her with a 100+ page, fully-illustrated hard-cover children's book of all the short stories she's written over the years.
The entire family can hardly wait to see her face light up!
While the book is wonderfully adorable, and the stories delightful, the real purpose of the book is to creatively demonstrate to my mother (a.k.a. "Grandma Dorothy" to all her grandchildren) just how much her kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren respect, admire, and love her.

Hoping your day is full of good surprises.

UPDATE: 9/2/16
Well, the suprise birthday party on 10/27 was a huge success---she was shocked that we were all able to keep it a secret! :)
While the multi-day family get together was a lot of fun, the best part of the weekend was when she unwrapped the book of her animal stories that she has wanted published for so many years. Several of us had our phones out, videotaping her reaction.
Her mouth literally dropped open when she scanned the cover and read,
A Day for Surprises
and other short stories
by Dorothy M. Lamson
and realized that what she was holding in her hands wasn't the new pair of pajamas she had asked for---it was her book!
Delight, shock, amazement, disbelief, joy, happiness---a dozen different emotions simultaneously sped across her face!
She has read her book daily since then, to my great delight. The #1 item on her life-long bucket list is now a reality.
It gives her great pleasure to know that she is leaving a written legacy for her kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and generations to come.
Plus, there's no doubt in her mind that her family respects, honors, and loves her so much that together they made her dream into a reality.
Help make someone's dream come true... there's nothing like it.
Tim
