Yesterday was the second time that nineteen artist owned galleries here in Carmel-by-the-Sea had their "Second Saturday Every Month" art walk from 5 to 8 PM.
Usually, galleries close around 5 or 6, so this makes it very nice for visitors to Carmel to come and meet the artists themselves and maybe enjoy some light refreshments and nibbles. Some of the artists, like Mary Titus, even paint while the public wanders around the gallery. Her gallery is in a building owned by Clint Eastwood and, of course, we always ask how her "landlord" is.
It was especially fun for me to walk around to get more acquainted with the artwork of some of artists who have recently opened their studio such as Stephen Sanfilippo of the Cypress Coast Gallery. It's tucked away in a courtyard between San Carlos and Mission.
I found all but one gallery, the Kris Blichfeldt Gallery on San Carmel tween Ocean & 7th. How could I have missed it? All the galleries have a BLUE LANTERN outside to guide you but, none that I could see on his stretch of town.
Why is this so important? Well, the Carmel Art Walk gives out a card, and when you go into a gallery, you have them initial it. Once your card is full, you receive a gift and will be invited to their special after-party. This is something I did not pay attention to yesterday, but next time, in two weeks, I'll grab some friends to come with me and we will take this walk seriously! Snack our way through town and end up at an artists party. And these people are FUN, much like the artists of old who that populated Carmel way back when.
Oh, and next time, I WILL take photos.
And in the meantime, you might want to go to my website www.CarmelArtGalleries.com and see where ALL the galleries are here in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Well, all but 3 that are on the Carmel Art Walk that sneaked in there after I got MY map done. But that will be corrected in the next couple of weeks as well.
Next Gallery Walk: Tuesday, October 11.
