Uh Huh-I am interested in Buying a Business in Florida

     As a business broker/REALTOR I often pick up the phone and hear " I'm interested in buying a business.  Do you have any good opportunities?"  My answer is always more or less the same.  "Yes I do but I have no idea what might be a good opportunity for YOU until I know something about what are your priorities, your experience, your goals, and several other factors.  More often than not the response I get is something like " Well just tell me or send me some examples of what is available and I will take a look at them."  My answer is always the same, "No."  This is not what the person on the other end of the line is expecting to hear and certainly not what most business brokers would say so there is usually a brief silence on the other end.  Let's just say that I've learned a few things over the years about buying or selling a business and I know better than to say "Yes" and start a process that greatly reduces the chances of a buyer's success in finding a business in which they will succeed.

 

     I see the process of finding the right business opportunity for a particular person as having 2 steps. I will explain these 2 steps and you can decide for yourself if this seems like a winning approach.

 

     First of all let me point out that when we learn about something that has been puzzling us we often say "AH HUH !  I GET IT !"  So we are looking for an "AH HUH" experience. If you are considering buying a business, whether a franchise or an existing business, you will need to two "AH HUH"  experiences.

 

     I would ask you to fill out a very simple questionnaire I have created which is designed to 1) clarify your priorities, goals, etc., 2) clarify any fears or concerns you might have, and 3) assess your skill set which you bring with you. A would also ask you to discuss each question with your spouse, partner, or anybody who will be involved in the business or part of the decision making process. Then we could meet to talk about each of these questions until we have an understanding of precisely  what you are looking for that would be specifically suitable for you.  When that conversation is completed I would expect that you would say to me "AH HUH! I GET IT !"  "NOW I KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO."  Now we know what we are looking for !!!  ( If you would like a copy of this questionnaire I will be happy to send it to you.)

 

     Now I can start showing you specific businesses that fit your "AH HUH" criteria. We can discuss them, visit them, analyze them, and further "zero-in" on what is exactly right for you. This can be a very simple process that leads quickly and directly to a business opportunity that satisfies all of your needs, OR it can be a longer process as more questions come up and need to be addressed.  No one is pushing you.  In either case we are on target to get you to the point where you have your second "AH HUH!" experience:

 

1) "AH HUH!   I KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO!"

 

2) "AH HUH!   AND I WANT TO DO IT WITH THIS BUSINESS!"

 

      This is a completely different process from if I had said "Yes" in our initial conversation and started throwing business for sale at you only to find out that we were wasting time and creating confusion by looking at the wrong situations to suit your real needs and goals.
