Over the 9 years our team has been selling real estate in the Fort Wayne area, we have worked with MANY young and first time home buyers. We get asked this question a lot.
Am I too young to buy a home? The answer is always the same: It depends.
1. Can you afford it? Buying is often cheaper than renting, but the upfront costs are higher. You need to consider what type of loan you qualify for and how much money you'll be putting down. We highly recommend talking to one of our lending partners or talking to your own if you have one.
Upkeep is something else you want to consider. If you own your home the repairs are up to you and can get costly. We always recommend a home warranty which will absorb some of the costs if needed.
2. What does the future hold? Do you plan on raising your family here? Is this a short term purchase where you'll be moving in the next 3-5 years?
We always ask our buyers these questions to help them decide on where and what to buy. Nobody has a crystal ball, but we do like to educate and tell our buyers to look to the future. If you have a short term plan and will want to sell within a few years, there's a good chance you won't build enough equity to absorb the costs of selling.
3. Do you know why you want to buy? This is a huge investment. It's a giant decision. Make sure that you are 100% committed to buying a home before you jump into something like this.
We are not your parents and can't make this decision for you. Our team is not just out here to make sales. We want to make sure that you're comfortable where you are with your decision to purchase a home. If you do decide that now is the time, we'll hold your hand through the entire process and beyond.
It's always 100% your choice who you use as a Realtor®, a home inspector and a lender. We have an entire team in place with like minded people that are hands on and always put their clients first.
If you'd like to have a pressure free chat about your needs and if buying a home is right for you, give Amanda Christiansen with Century 21 Bradley a call at (260) 704-0843 and we can connect you with the right people to make the home buying process as smooth as possible for you.
