Household Odors Your Guests Will Notice

Household Odors Your Guests Will NoticeWe all have odors roaming around our homes and we try to stay aware of them and keep them out but sometimes they hide under our noses. Overtime, our senses adjust to smells so while you may not notice it, your guests may. There are certain household situations that, no matter what, cause odors that are noticeable. Be mindful & manage those pesky smells with these tips.

Number one on the list is one you surely already know. It is our pets. We love these stinky boogers but the fact is, they are smelly. Dogs go out to potty and bring back yucky scents. Even when you wash your pup regularly, their dander gives off smells. If you have cats, same situation. You cats do not have to go outside to smell. They give off their own scent. What does help is keeping them clean as regularly as possible to maintain the smells and keeping the house vacuumed and sanitized. If you do these, it will help keep it all managed to not be funky for your lovely guests.

The second household odor which is one that is hard to avoid is the basement. All basements seem to have that “hey, I’m the basement” smell happening. They get stale and musty, some are just used for storage. It is a dark place that can often times hold mold or mildew so be aware of your basement if you have one. Keep it clean and well insulated from water damage and check for mold regularly. A dehumidifier and sunlight are always good options to keep mildew away and the air circulating.

On to number three, is the bedroom. Particularly, your bed. You use your bed a lot. You spend a lot of time in it and your body gives off sweat, oils, odors and they can all be absorbed into the mattress. In order to help this issue, you can buy a mattress protector to help prevent these issues from seeping into the mattress. Then you can take it off and wash it regularly. It is also recommended that you replace your mattress every 5 years. Finally, wash your sheets and comforter regularly, weekly. Especially if you have animals sharing your bed!

The final household odor that seems to stand out at times, is the refrigerator. Some of our favorite foods are stinky, even as fresh or leftovers. Keep your refrigerators clean to prevent yucky smells from seeping out where your guests may notice.
