Is your Head and Ego TOO Big to Send a Card of Thanks?

By
Education & Training with SendOutCards-Appreciation Marketing Expert

....Yes.....how can you say that Jay?...well I just did...and everyday I come across professionals that tell me that my system is so good yet they still do not send out cards of thanks or gratitude....Today, I am stoked on sharing this more than ever before since those that have used my system have reported tremendous increases in business and those that have not continue to struggle and blame others for their failure...hmmmm sounds familiar.

For example, in any business, if you cannot invest a $2.00 follow up card of Thanks etc., you are a target for Google, Yelp, LinkedIn, Zillow, Angies List etc.

Why?  Because those clients will be inundated with offers, coupons, specials etc., that will cause a thought for the end consumer to research for future choices.  If, however, you were to cement the relationship, those customers/clients would less likely leave  you.  As I have said many times before:  It is not the cost of sending card that is expensive, it is the cost of not sending a card that is truly expensive!

Further, the big boys may not have the personal information that you have gained through the relationship.  Birthdays, hobbies, likes/dislikes, sports, food .... that creates a special bond between you and your client.....WHY give the big boys or girls called the internet that edge.  I speak often around the country and soon the world will see that expressing that touch to the 200 folks that would come to your wake, funeral, or better your wedding are thirsty for your attention and appreciation...START there and say thanks more and more often and you will be amazed of your success through referrals and repeat business.  Create habits of saying thanks to all your invoices and watch your referral business rise.  In conclusion you can use this advice or you can delete.....If you delete it, your competition Thanks YOU.

I have been sending out personal notes and cards for as long as I can remember to my client data base... it pays back in spades as 75% of my business is repeat and referral business year after year after year.

I send handwritten thank you cards and others frequently, and have for years. They definitely make a positive impression and are remembered.

Good advice, always worth saying thanks, what is the worst that can happen doing that they think you old fashioned....

My Mom is the Queen of personal notes, Jay McHugh ... I can't tell you how many people over the years have told me how much they appreciate her sending them.  I took "note" and send them too.  Besides being the right thing to do ... it makes a good impression.  A "win win" ...

I had a  buyer close on her home earlier this year. During the final walk-through, I took a picture of her in front of her new home. She asked "you're not going to post this are you?" I said no, and meant it. I included the pic on the front of a send-out card and she loved it.

Indeed Richie....however, when I speak I share this example...A golfer who practices 30 hours a month, does he get better than one who practices 10 hours?  Often I hear "Of Course Jay"  I then say not necessarily ..  See the 30 hour golfer is practicing with average players and gets better at being AVERAGE...the other Golfer practices with Jordan Speith and gets far better practicing the right way to get better...  I hope that helps Richie....Agents need to practice better ways to say thank you today more than ever before....happy to chat and share more with you...

Thank you notes are so rare - when I was a real estate broker and sent cards regularly, I often got thank you cards thanking me for sending a thank you card!

Awesome....glad to see some that get it.....as I have said before...it is not just sending the card.....it is a combination of what is said, how memorable the card is, and the follow up one places in their system as a Pro....cheers...

Clients will leave you regardless of your thank you cards or notes. It's your value as their agent with your solutions to relieve stress and anxiety regarding their challenges and issues that determine your client retention.

Should changes, other than death, in their economics,  personal lifestyle, change of employment or careers or moving out of your marketing area occurs,  that would probably cease your client relationship. Keeping your clients satisfied with your personal service and invaluable solutions IMO is your best differential that makes you unique and inseparable to your clients.

I believe in this too. Recently we had an extremely good transaction with another Realtor who we had never met before. She sent us a Thank You card for our hard work in putting this deal together. First of it's kind we have ever received - We will do the same to other Realtors we appreciate in the future.

Excellent ... indeed we have encouraged our 450+ agents to do the same....what we found is the agents that use my system of SOC HAVE  a far greater experience with that agent throughout the transaction....just a good way to live and to practice real estate...cheers....

Dear Jay,

Isn't it funny how you can stand out with this low tech trick? Very few people seem to say thank you anymore.

May 29, 2017 09:31 PM
Jay McHugh

I agree......time tested...saying thanks is a lost art in this world of technology yet it may get the best results that agents seem to want....
