2017 Hilton Head Chili Cookoff
FALL FESTIVAL KICKOFF
We know when it's supposed to be fall - though our temps this year are still in the high 80s - because the Hilton Head Island Kiwanis Club Chili Cook Off is scheduled!
WHEN:
SATURDAY: September 30, 2017 -This year it's from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM - this is VERY good for those of us that await the event since previous years it was shortened and if you didn't get there by noon and if you didn't race to your favorites (One Hot Mama's, the Hilton Head firefighters, and Smokehouse) you'd NEVER get a place in line and they'd run out.
Here's hoping that neither of those things happen.
WHERE:
Shelter Cove Community Park
This too is a bit of a change. Most frequently held at Honey Horn Plantation - this is a terrific venue for loads of reasons; beautiful view over the Broad Creek, plenty of space to put your chairs out, for non-chili eating people (can't even imagine), there are other restaurants and locations for other libations.Â
Shelter Cove Community Park is also located right in the middle of the island so is easy to get to and there is plenty of parking around the shopping center area and you won't have to walk very far - also, parking is FREE.
HOW MUCH:
CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP - or inexpensive as we should say. $20pp at the door or $15pp if purchased at Burke's Pharmacy, Reilly's Grill & Bar (South end), Bluffton Pharmacy, the Honey Baked Ham company and any Kiwanis member.
What you get, is all you can eat chili from quite a few chefs, restaurants, amateurs, with all sorts of varieties from alligator to chicken to turkey to with bean and without beans, hot and spicy or mild and sweet!
Beer, wine, and soft drinks are available for a minimal cost - as well as water - which you will definitely need!
WHY:
This annual (33rd as a matter of fact) event is a major fund-raising event for the Hilton Head Kiwanis Club. The Kiwanis are highly active in our community and provide donations to many of Hilton Head childrens' programs including those at the Boys and Girls Club, Childrens' Center, Hilton Head ROTC, Sandbox (Childrens' Museum), Coastal Discovery Museum, Friends of the Library, and Toys for Tots to name just a few.
Wouldn't you just love to live in a place like this? CALL ME to find out what the market's like!
