Is Success Like Balancing an Elephant?

I just don't think you can ever find true balance.  Well, maybe for a second or two.  At least it has been my experience.  I'm talking about the balance of the whole package.  When financial, mental, physical, spiritual and emotional aspects of my life are truly in balance.  It is something I really strive for.  Generally on the top five priorities of every day.

I remember growing up and seeing so many people I thought were successful.  They seemed to have it all.  It looked like they had the balance between those five things (financial, mental, physical, spiritual and emotional).  I wanted to be like them.  I don't think it is just about the money in order to be successful.  Because if you can't pull off a decent life what good is the money?

I've known folks how have made tons of bucks and have terrible family lives.  They live in a big house and have a lot of influence in the community.  So many of them have failing health because they work such long hours and don't take time for themselves.

I don't want to live like that.  Success for me means being able to balance all this out.  It is something I strive for but I'm not sure I will actually ever fully achieve it, balance that is.

Life is a constant flow.  Constant change which really does not support balance if you expect to keep up with the flow.

I would not want to change my life.  I am content striving for balance and content with my progress today at the moment.  But I'll continue to go with the flow.

Nannette- everything in life comes with a cost attached. Your point is well made-that the biggest homes, have a price tag not measured in dollars as much as in time required to support them. Quality of life, it where the balancing act begins!  I enjoyed your post.

Good points Nannette. I have seen the same. Kinda goes with the old saying be careful for what you wish for, you just might get it. Sometimes the cost isn't worth it.

Hey Nanette, You mean you can be content without making a million dollars this year in sales. LOL  Sometimes I get so angry about the push to do more.  I am content to do about what I am right now in real estate (well maybe a bit more but enough is enough) I am so much more that a real estate agent and without balance I would really be unhappy.

Paddy good to hear from you!  Yes more is not necessarily better.  I remember in '03 & '04 & -05 we were killing ourselves with offers out the ying yang.  Running round selling houses like there was no tomorrow.  Now things are different and quite frankly I am glad.  I was nothing but a real estate agent in those times long ago.  Now I have the opportunity to do so much more with my life!  I am glad.

However, I understand about the push to do more and more.  We all must figure out our own limits and work with what we got!

Nannette, this is so true.  I feel like am constantly "on guard" for keeping my business going.  So far I have been good with keeping my business steady, but in this market it can be trying to say the least.  Family balance has been good, but I don't have kids.  I have no idea how Moms work, take care of their families and themselves?  I am competitive, but I don't care about selling the most houses, I just want to keep my life steady and that is fine with me.

Good post Nannette and you're right, so often those who appear to have it all are lacking something somewhere. I think to make things balance out we need to find a level of content with each of the five.

Audrey the balance between being competitive and keeping a life and finding time for yourself is something I continue to strive for.

Bob good to hear from you.  Hope you are doing well.  You are right about what you see may not be the true picture as the devil is in the details. :-)
