Video Recording and Editing Apps for cell phones.
The quality of cameras in our smart-phones has come a long way, baby. And since we generally have our cellphones with us, we are lucky to have such a great tech tool on-board. Especially for those unexpected moments when we stop to capture a sunset, or a rainbow, or wildlife. Stills and video.
If you plan to take advantage of your cellphone camera, it’s worth your while to explore some of the apps out there that can really up your game. They offer new tools with filters, options for quick editing, and more. Here are some highly recommended apps we found for recording, editing, and sharing videos.
For Android Users
VidTrim - This app gives you the basics. Trimming, merging, frame grabs, video effects….and converting options ( MP3 and MP4 files) Free, or you can upgrade to the pro version for $2.99. This pro version gives you more options and you can add music to soundtracks to your videos.
Camera MX - This works best for simple stuff. You can even shoot in GIF mode. A built-in photo editor offers you the basics. Serious photographers and video bloggers will likely want to choose another option. Free, or up to $1.99.
Open Camera - This one has some serious features, including manual camera controls, support for external microphones, HDR, exposure bracketing and more. The app is free, but there is a separate donation app if you want to support the developer.
For iPhone Users
Quik - GoPro Video Editor - Not just for GoPros. This sounds like a great option with the promise to edit like a pro, even if you aren’t good at editing. With this app, you get a variety of editing tools that are user friendly. Free.
Spark Camera - This is another video recording app for iPhones. What intrigues us is its ease of use. Once downloaded, you can quickly record one minute videos and break them down into clips for use on Instagram Stores and IGTV. Swiping up or down while recording lets you zoom in or out. Free, or $29.99 a year, $49.99 gives you a lifetime subscription to Pro Membership.
iMovie - Apple’s iMovie remains one of the best video-making apps out there. 14 trailer templates come with impressive graphics, plus you can fine-tune to add your logo, etc. It’s easy to feel like a bonafide movie producer. Plus there are ten video filters to transform your clips. Free.
Both Android and iPhone Users
Magisto - If you really want an app to do most of the heavy lifting, this might be an option. You can make compelling videos in minutes using Magisto’s computerized video editor. . Plans range from $4.99 monthly to $34.99/monthly. Here’s a link to one I liked…5 Reasons to Love Winter in Your Lakehouse
FilMic Pro - We recently purchased this app for both of our iPhones. It’s one of the top-rated video apps and is loaded with powerful features. And it’s user friendly too! We like the different recording mode settings. It also lets you shoot portrait, as well as landscape - good for Instagram and Facebook Stories. $14.99

ViewHomes™ grew out of our passion for nature, beautiful surroundings, and peaceful environments. Starting together in an urban environment, over the years we've gravitated towards areas with smaller populations and less density. We now enjoy our lifestyle in a rural environment, but with close proximity to metropolitan areas where we appreciate all the amenities of fine restaurants, shopping, and an easy drive to an international airport.
Living in ViewHomes™ is like having “elbowroom for the soul”.
