Top 10 tech items for the 30 over 30

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Re/Max Property Pros LLC

I am amazed as I looked through my most recent Realtor magazine.. Top 30 under 30.... Very impressive group of people and as I read through their stories I am  wowed by how easy their transitions into Real Estate were... Most of them appeared to be pretty savy with technology and this is what  seems to be setting many of these agents apart from the rest.

I am barely hanging onto my 30's. My actual 39th Birthday is tomorrow and I am perplexed at how much new is happening with technology and how far behind I feel at times... I believe you are seeing so many younger and tech savy indiviudals making their mark b/c they are able to get access to so many people right away.. Many of us that are slower to get the PDA's to learn about skyping, to do youtube and to basically"trust" the internet and what is out there are going to have a hard time keeping up...

I am anxious to continue learning and to continue growing through technology but I often feel it is happening soo quickly that every time I have one thing down something new comes up.  We need a top 10 technology items for the 30 over 30 catagory in my humble opinion... I am going to do my best to keep up and make a committment to myself to keep learning and going forward.  I will keep an eye on all of you as well b/c I get so much feedback from you  about what works and what doesn't.. Please keep the info. coming...

Happy Birthday. Remember, not old ... just older. I think that's a Bon Jovi song.

I think the proof of age might come from the Bon Jovi references .

I was a ski bum in a previous life before real estate, and used to get my posterior kicked by "older folks" on older equipment all the time.  They used what they had, a little bit of charm and elbow grease, and were waiting for me at the bottom of the hill with big grins.

Old John Henry beat the steam machine.  Of course, he dies at the end of the song, so there might be two lessons there.

Happy Birthday.  Sorry for the downer. Just think of yourself as an 18 year old and a 21 year old wrapped up into one!

Julie,

As the writer of a blog that focuses alot on the customer experience and incorporating technology, I would love to field this question.  I spend much of my time as a real estate coach helping agents work through just this...  BUT... I will tell you that it's not about KNOWING the top ten... it's about IMPLEMENTING 2-3 (do I sound like a coach or trainer now?  Sorry... no more)

Matt's Top Ten on a Monday Night at 7:15

1.  Some Version of a SmartPhone (remember you have to use it!)

2.  Google Reader - Best way to start reading blogs and definitely the easiest

3.  Google Maps w/Streetview - if you live in an area that has it your clients will LOVE peering into people's windows.

4.  Google Documents - Put your PDf files, Documents, Excel files, etc. online and share them with the world.

5.  ANY Social Media - Wait... you're already on AR.  You sure you're struggling???

6.  High Quality Digital Camera - Point, Click, Done.  Extra points if you have a camera in your phone that takes great shots and you can upload them directly to the web using Flickr.

7.  Utterz - www.utterz.com Want to do a random audio blog while you're driving around?  This is the way to do it. (Just look out for deer up them doncha know)

8.  Laptop - get one.  You just have to get one.

9.  WiFi card - This goes IN the laptop.  Log into websites, MLS, etc. on the run or over coffee for your clients.  ALSO... if you're sitting an open house, there's no better way to make a connection with a client than to show them what's on the market.  Oh yeah... you can upload your photos from your fancy camera this way too.

10.  Get a Bluetooth speakerphone - there are some really good ones available at www.blueant.com that work well and keep you from looking like some kind of a robot with something growing out of your ear.

My blog talks about how to actually USE some of these cool features, especially the web features and can be found at www.theyoufactor.com.  Hope this helps!

Hi Julie, i agree with the frustrations, but here in Maryland the featured agents are most certainly NOT anywhere near their 30's (and that is not said with disrespect) I don't think it is an age thing!
