Fall Warns Us to Prepare for Winter

Air is still warm but you can feel the changes in the air.  Nights much cooler.  Shadows longer.  Days growing shorter very rapidly now.  The heartiest of flower baskets fading.

While North Idaho winter is still a bit away all the signs showing themselves right now remind us to start preparing for winter.  Not to do so can cause much heartache when snow is deep and temps very low.

So while I enjoy the walks in storms and frigid air, I feel better doing so, knowing I paid attention to the signs autumn gives us that winter is on the way.

Mark,

I already see the signs of Fall here,  especially in the forest.  And also in the vegetables that are appearing as a prelude to fall.  Is that a picture of your dog?  A

Hi Mark... that picture made me start shivering... which is something when it's 84 degrees here. While our days are getting visibly shorter, the cool weather is still a good month away, if not more.

Mark, for us living in Northern States, fall is around the corner.  I have seen some leaves falling already!

Yesterday, I was pondering the rapidly approaching autumn.  It was enought to motivate me to make pumpkin-butternut squash soup.  I managed to freeze 9 quarts of it.  Now, all I need is cooler days, with a little rain to enjoy some of it.

I always look forward to the crock pot meals.  Coming home from the cold or snow and walk into the smell of dinner cooking all day just is tough to beat.  It will be here soon enough and till then I will enjoy hopefully a gorgeous fall.  M

Mark that poor dog looks a lot like me about 7-8 years ago after I finished shoveling the driveway after a major snow storm.

Hi Mark- I'm in Houston so our winters are very mild compared to yours. That said, if and when we have a hard freeze, our pipes will burst if we don't take precautions.

Morning Mark.

Just yesterday I commented to my wife the leaves are already starting to turn color.  I hate, just hate cold but I've learned to cope with it

I totally agree! My husband and I were just discussing the need to make sure our buckets are full of sand, the road is ready for the winter, and we have plenty of firewood!
