I am just going to talk about four really good cities in central Oakland County. Are they the absolute best of the best....not really but they are very good cities to live in. They are cities that have low crime, good schools, and overall are nice places to live.
The 4 best cities I am going to touch on are
All of these towns are relatively close to each other.
Clarkston is one of those communities that many home buyers would want to live in if they could afford it. What I mean by that is the real estate values are strong. It is not a run down community, or a community that will have bargain basement home prices. I would call it one of Metro Detroit's stronger, more desirable communities.
The charm of the downtown gives off a nostalgia and picturesque setting that everyone enjoys. With numerous homes on the historical register, the City of the Village of Clarkston is a up beat small town surrounded by a growing rural and suburban area. The houses and stores have been there since eighty or a hundred years ago were home and business to the families of the people on the lake will take you back a step in time. Yes if you did not know Clarkston is still in the lakes area of Oakland County. You will find that Deer Lake, Dixie Lake, Softwater Lake, and Susin Lake are all close by. So you can live on a lake and still be close to a freeway. What more could you want...lake living with city conveniences.
Residents are quick to tell you of the virtues of the community and seem to be at ease in welcoming newcomers. Dining and shopping, together with the Village and Township government sustain the economic base of the community.
The children in the township will be going to Huron Valley Schools. It is a good school system with teachers that strive to make sure the children are prepared for college. The community also has continuing education classes too. Highland Township is what I would call on the outskirts of Metro Detroit. It would be a long drive to get to the airport or downtown Detroit if you had to do it often. If you are considering relocating to Highland then you may be working in Brighton, Pontiac, or in the northwestern part of Metro Detroit.
Highland Township Fire Department serve selflessly to protect the public and property in our community. I would call Highland Township a very low crime community. There is no city police department. Highland Township contracts with the Oakland County Sheriff to provide patrol services. This provides us Community Oriented Policing, Crime Investigation services, School Liaison Deputies, D.A.R.E. Deputies, Traffic and Weigh-master Deputies. The Fire Department provides first response for fire and medical emergencies in Highland Township, and mutual aid for neighboring communities. It is a small city with a laid back atmosphere. If you would like a Highland relocation guide email me at yesmyrealtor@gmail.com
If you are worried about being in a semi-rural community with nothing around, DON'T WORRY. The downtown Milford area has many great small shops, bakeriers and restaurants. You will find grocery stores, hardware stores, and many other stores within a f5 to 15 minute drive. There are big box stores like Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, JC Penney, Marshals, and Kohl within a 10 to 20 minute drive. You could go west on M-59 to Hartland, or east to White Lake, or go through Milford to the shopping area at I-696 and Milford Rd. For major malls you can go to Novi 12 Oaks or the Howell outlet malls. There is plenty of place to shop nearby.
Milford Michigan is a community in the western suburbs of Metro Detroit. It is what I would call a semi-rural community. Metro Detroit home buyers like Milford for these reasons
Milford real estate tend to have bigger lots and more space between the homes
- Subdivisions tend to be spaced out more
- Some homes are private
- Milford has a bustling, active historic city center
- Wide variety of home styles, home sizes, and home prices
Downtown Milford is about a 10 -15 minute ride to I-696 freeway. Many of Milford's homes are closer to the freeway. Downtown Milford Michigan is one of those old tyme city centers like Northville, Rochester, Plymouth, and Farmington. There are old buildings that have been converted into small boutiques, restaurants, and taverns. Milford has become a go to place to eat and shop. The downtown is alive with activity
White Lake has five different school districts. Some belong to the Huron Valley School District, Holly, Clarkston, Waterford school district, and Walled Lake school. So when relocating to White Lake Township it depends on where you live on where your children would go to school. Walled Lake school district is a well-known School District that has 12 elementary Schools, 3 Middle Schools and 3 High Schools. They are known for their Athletics, Extra-curricular activities, GPA, Parent Involvement and high test scores on the MEAP, SAT and ACT’s. Most children that attend the Walled Lake Consolidated School District graduate with honors and attend an undergraduate college after graduating High School. It is the same way with many of the other school districts too.
You will like White Lake Township because of the low crime. Yes, like all cities there is some random crime, but you can walk around the city and never have to worry about getting mugged. That is one of the many bonuses when you have a White Lake MI relocation.
