How Do You Balance It All? Family, Work, & Homes

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

Greetings Everyone!

I must confess that I am not as bad as some of my friends are. Because currently I have no kids and am single. However, I do having aging parents and one of them has Alzheimers which has progressed in the last five years. It also has become difficult to monitor her eating habits and make sure she takes her medication for her memory, etc. since I have a dual career and am going to school. Home health does come to mind but that is another adjustment all together for my parents who are very independent and do not like being made to feel like a kid. I wish there was some support groups for children dealing with parents that have Alzheimers.

I am pretty sure there are groups for Alzheimer's care takers. Have you googled it? I have lots of empathy for you. I became sole care giver for our granddaughter for 2 years unexpectedly and while it was really rewarding and I wouldn't have done it any other way, I did have to re order my priorities! That's what time management is...know what is most important right now. And most of the time other things can wait when it has to do with taking care of a loved one..

That is difficult to juggle a career while being a caregiver.  Like Joeann said, you may be able to get a little help, although you probably would like to do everything yourself.  You are strong and you will manage, warm wishes.

Angela,

My prayers are with you and yours during this difficult time.

It was so hard to watch my grandmother suffer from Alzheimers.  We had several family members to help with care and eventually after several years, had to put her in a full-time facility before she was killed by a drunk driver.  It is so hard to watch our parents age and suffer.

I am keeping you in my thoughts.
