Quarter Bets at Work (a.k.a., are we having fun yet?)

quarterIf you work full-time, you spend more time working than at home.   And if your work is "WORK" then what's the point.  Work can and should have a fun side too.

(Of course, it helps if you are with a great company, with a great team that works hard and has a sense of humor.)

Anyway, is your office a fun place to work?

Here are some of our adventures in recent years with our tech team and occasional participation from the operations staff....

  • Someone brought a miniature pool table to the office.  Losers of each game had to eat a "GFP"(Gross Food Product), something like licorice Altoids, or the nasty chewing gum I think came from China.
  • We can be cheap, so all bets are only a quarter... yep, big ole' 25 cent piece.  We figure anything over that and the jokes over.  Besides, pride should weigh in any good bet.
  • (Alternate bet can be a piggyback ride around the parking lot.)
  • I went 3 months without a haircut on a quarter bet of who could go the longest without a haircut.  Actually, I won after about 2 months but went another month just to make my point.  I'd have looked cool if I had been 20 years old again.
  • Kidnapped a neighboring business' Christmas wreath and left a ransom note.  Okay, we thought it was alot funnier than everyone else.
  • We all go to a Star Wars movie after work where on a quarter bet (see a trend here) someone wears a Klingon mask complete with wild hair (just to see if anyone will say anything about it being the "wrong movie").

Anyone else having fun?  You might even be surprised how many clients enjoy the humor of being a little silly once in a while.  Helpful tip though... you have to have excelled at your job first so you don't come off as waste of their time and money.   But if you do that, it is a great way to build rapport.
