Fairfield Pop Warner hosts Annual John J. Sullivan Bowl!

The Fairfield Giants Football and Cheerleading programs will host the 41st  Annual John J. Sullivan Bowl over two days starting Friday evening August 22nd   at 7:30PM at Fairfield Ludlowe High School Field.  Fairfield has the honor of holding the very first Pop Warner Football game played each year in the nation. 

This year the Fairfield Giants will be hosting the Seymour Tigers teams.  "It is quite an honor for our town to be First in the Nation."  stated Steve Finnegan, President of the Fairfield Pop Warner organization.  "We're very excited to be kicking off a new season and the Seymour Tigers are a formidable opponent.  We're going have our hands full."

"We are expecting a large turnout both at Ludlowe on Friday evening and at Sullivan Field on Saturday" added Jack Tetreau, Fairfield's Athletic Director and Sullivan Bowl Chairman.

Adding to the excitement will be a celebrity announcer Paul Piorek of Channel 12. He will be announcing all five games. Mr. Piorek is a native of Fairfield. He has been the weather anchor at News 12 Connecticut for the past 12 years. He is a familiar face on The Morning Edition - Monday through Friday. Mr. Piorek won the 2007 Emmy award for television weather. He recognized as the best among a field that included all the New York metropolitan-area TV stations.

The Sullivan Bowl is actually four games played over two days - Friday evening  - August 22nd and Saturday - August 23rd . The feature game is played by the Midget teams pitting Fairfield vs. their Seymour counterparts on Friday under the lights at Fairfield Ludlowe High School field.  This is followed on Saturday by the younger teams taking the field - the Mitey Mite 1 team at 9AM, the Junior Pee Wee 2 team playing at 11AM.  The Pee Wee team plays at 1PM and the Jr. Midgets at 3PM.  The Saturday games are played at John J. Sullivan field located on Old Dam Road in Fairfield.

There will be almost 450 children participating from over 300 families this season.  Over the past 40 plus years, thousands of Fairfield youngsters have joined the ranks of Fairfield Pop Warner alumni. Pop Warner is a national program with over 250,000 participants each year.  For more information, please visit www.fairfieldgiants.com.
