Citizenship? CHECK! Passport? CHECK! Voted? CHECK!

As regular readers of my blog will know, I recently completed a seven year journey to citizenship of this great nation. Now this week has seen two further milestones!

My United States passport arrived in the mail yesterday, and today I went and voted for the first time in my new home. Yes that's me outside the polling place at lunchtime today after I had cast my vote to throw out the incumbents! Me voting!

The importance of exercising your democratic rights have perhaps never been more important than they are today.

i voted

We have the incredible men and women of our military right now as I write this, trying to ensure those same rights to people who have been living under one of the most brutal dictatorships the world has ever known. The first time they were given the opportunity - and risking their own lives to do so - the Iraqi people came out in their millions and dipped their fingers in purple ink to show the world they had cast their votes.

Of course it is equally your right to not go and vote although personally I believe that means you give up your right to complain. Before you don't go, I urge you to think of the sacrifice so many have made to enable you to make that choice.

Simon, CONGRATS again on your citizenship and now your first voting experience here in th U.S. Was it casual Tuesday or do all ya realtors down there in Florida dress casual. If so, that is cool it's very refreshing to not see that stuffy old suit and tie attire. All you're missing to complete the all american look is LEVI'S!!!!!! *lol*

Simon,

Voting is a great right that we enjoy. I have never missed a vote and hopefully never will. I agree that not voting is also a right, but those who do not vote can't complain.

Nice Shirt! My son will be voting for the first time this year. He's excited too. I'm just nervous. A lot hinges on the outcome of this election.

I feel if Obama is elected, we agents will see harder times.

Well stated. Isn't amazing how many people in this country that were born here can't figure this out. Seems everyone wants the easy way and not willing to stand and fight. I believe people like you have so much to teach the complacent and none patriot people in America. You should do a tour through Boulder  Colorado, Oregan, Washing and I could name a few more places. Thanks for your post. Freedom isn't cheap and yet we give it to all here regardless of their loyalty.

Congrats Simon, this is a big milestone for you, and I am happy to see you take your civic duty seriously, and that you are so well informed on the issues citizens should be concerned about.  Again congratulations!

Simon, you posted this a couple of months ago, but it is even more important now. You are someone who didn't happen to be born in this country, you are a person who has shown that you want to be an American.

Even though we disagree on several issues, I sincerely believe that this country would be better if we had more people like you.

Now... a very belated congratulations on your citizenship!

Best regards,
Jay

Simon:

You couldn't wait to vote, eh?  Why doesn't this surprise me.

Sorry for your tainted taste of democracy in this year's presidential election.  This will mark the first time a presidential election was literally stolen via voter fraud.
