Ethics - Power Quotes Series

The biggest issue with the mortgage and Real Estate issue over the years typically stems from ethics. When it comes down to it, we as professionals have the ability to control our industry just by practicing Ethics. Typically dollar signs get in the way and then we lose sight of what is important; being ethical.

Dictionary.com decribes ethics as:

1. (used with a singular or plural verb) a system of moral principles: the ethics of a culture.
2. the rules of conduct recognized in respect to a particular class of human actions or a particular group, culture, etc.: medical ethics; Christian ethics.
3. moral principles, as of an individual: His ethics forbade betrayal of a confidence.
4. (usually used with a singular verb) that branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions.

Ann Landers said it best with the qoute of "The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good."

This speaks a ton to our industry. People that seem to not go the extra mile just because there is no financial gain to them skirt the ethical issues to say the least.

When I did the research to this post, I had to do some soul searching myself. So many of these quotes point out areas that we all have to take notice off. Ethical is not just following what a book tells us to do. Ethical is not just following the guidelines that are laid out by the state or nation for us. Ethical goes much deeper than this. And it starts with us.

I look at it as a simple thing. Do we expect more from services that we are not even willing to do ourselves in our chosen profession? Think about it

Now, after you read these great quotes and you find the time, click on the pictures to read a blog that might help you out in another area. Thanks for your time and I hope that something below will inspire you this evening.

I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so his place will be proud of him.
Abraham Lincoln

The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.

The moment we begin to fear the opinions of others and hesitate to tell the truth that is in us, and from motives of policy are silent when we should speak, the divine floods of light and life no longer flow into our souls.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton

I'd rather be right than President.
Henry Clay

The night is far spent; the day draws near. Let us cast off deeds of darkness and put on the armor or light. Let us live honorably, as in daylight...

True independence and freedom can only exist in doing what's right.

Moral cowardice that keeps us from speaking our minds is as dangerous to this country as irresponsible talk. The right way is not always the popular and easy way. Standing for right when it is unpopular is a true test of moral character.
Margaret Chase Smith

The imperative is to find what is right and to do it.
Barbara Jordan, American congresswoman and lawyer

A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.

Well and fully stated Danny. I think the only major one missing is from the Sermon on the Mount:

Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 7:12).

Ethical behavior is one of the most important elements in any industry because so much of our daily practices stem from it. Great post.

Danny - very timely post in this day of greed and avarice being the root of all the problems that our financial system is facing. Ambition is one thing, however, when greed starts to step on and blur the lines of ethics , it has gone too far and injured the consumer confidence in an entire industry

Danny, I have always said the our integrity is all we really have to bring to the table in business. It says everything about our character and our ethics. When all the other things fall into place, they add up as our integrity.

Great post
