When did your poor planning become my emergency?

By
Managing Real Estate Broker with Alpine Lakes Real Estate Inc., NHRE# 02863

I had no appointments scheduled Wednesday afternoon, and it seamed like a great time to get some things done before the Holidays. The moment I walked into the hardware store 30 minutes away from my office my cell phone rang. Hi Steve we are at your office, and wondered if you had some time to show us around. Great Paul are you going to be staying the night so I can see you tomorrow? Well we just drove 3 hours on a whim, and no we can't spend the night. No Planning on their part..drop what you're doing and run back to the office.

I guess not everyone is perfect, but any good carpenter will tell you measure twice & cut once!

If your plan involves other people make sure they are on the same page..please I'm begging you.

I hope you enjoyed the pictorial comedy of errors, Call me before you come

Steve, those are the very same people who will have you show them every property in town, say they'll "get back with you later", and then they'll leave town and you'll never hear from them again.  Until you see that they made an offer on another property with another agent a few months later....

Craig, I do think people that get hassled in their job everyday are much more cognoscente of unscheduled requests, the ones that just don't think about how their actions affect others are the ones that get their way all day long. They are used to people asking how high when told to jump. You make some valid points. Steve

Caller ID is a wonderful thing.  When I'm "OFF" (very seldom) I only answer calls from those numbers I want calls from.  The rest can go to voice mail.

wow... those photos offer some serious lack of planning.

Prior to being a Realtor, I used to have a sign over my desk that said "A lack of planning on your part, does not constitute an emergency on my part!"

I loved that sign.

I thought that these pics were great. Every now and then you need to see someone do something stupid so that you feel better about the dumb things that you have done!

Steve.. These pictures had me in stitches.  Why.. I've seen one of these at a home I showed.  The one where the bathroom door is opened by the toilet and can't close... what a hoot.

BTW.. I like the *younger* shot of you on your profile.

So did you drop everything and run back to the office to show them?  I agree.  They need to give notice that they're coming.

Barbara..you know I did, and I will do it again soon I'm sure..it's just a pet-peeve of mine. I work in the second home market and many travel a distance to come see me, I wouldn't drive 3 hours on a whim.

Not a real person
San Diego, CA

I'm one of those who would have gone to the office to meet them, have them sign my buyer's contract, and then given them my undivided attention. Shopping can wait. These people obviously couldn't. Yes, a phone call would have been nice, especially since we have the greatest phone system in the world, but a slight inconvenience to me to get a commission paycheck down the road is well worth it. If I wasn't working on commission, it might be a different story, but in this market, I would have been all over those people.

Russel, you are right of course and I did scurry back to the office. In a perfect world we would be forewarned each time we were expected to be available. But as they say if this job was easy anyone could do it.
