50 B*****it Jobs - not in Real Estate!
by Kaushik Sirkar, Chandler REALTOR®

What is a B*****it job?  According to the heading of the article in money.cnn.com, we are talking about "Big pay, not much wrk: Least useful gigs in America".  So basically jobs that pay pretty well for doing apparently very little.  For whatever reason, various professions within real estate (and I will focus on Real Estate Agents) have been labelled as jobs where it is MUCH too EASY to make a living while performing a minimum amount of work.  Of course, those of us in the industry who aren't part of the ~ 80% who can't hack it every year realize that it just isn't a stroll on the beach.  Lots of hard work, long hours and diligence are required before a 'Super Agent' can be made.  And that super agent must continue to strive and work hard to maintain their status and living.

So I was very pleased when looking though the list on money.cnn.com (I love this website, by the way) and I didn't see Realtor®.  I didn't see lender.  I didn't see the word mortgage.  I didn't see appraiser.  I didn't see inspector.  The closest thing I saw - agent ala Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire.

So the next time accuses you of being no more useful than a sports bloviator, a roadkill collector, an infomercial spokesperson or a Feng Shui consultant - you now have evidence to the contrary!

Alas, 'blogger' did make the list.  But then again, blogging unto itself isn't our profession, now is it????

Thanks for Reading :)

We do get a bad rap and it is nice to see that not everyone feels that way.

interesting, thanks for sharing...the truth of the matter is as REALTORs we're in  the business of making other people rich so how in the world could that be a bogus job!

I hear those comments a lot lately.  It is obvious the ignorance of people is shown in the articles they write and the business they conduct.  We know you work for your money.

Jodi - Agreed, at least in this instance we don't have a negative spotlight on us!

Uzi - Well, unfortunately I don't think all Realtors are in the business just to make others rich....thats why sometimes there is a negative view...

OHM - Lots of folks familiar with the industry know the work involved.  Will that knowledge level spread to the general public??

Kaushik,

I always like to read your blogs, they are controversial, well, I think that just we need to work and we do not have to care what people say around of us, just try to give the best service and money will come together.

Kaushik, yep Real Estate is a quick easy way to make money, after all houses just sell themselves, and loans only have to be submitted.  Yep easy money..........LOL

Kaushik today was a hectic day, thanks for ending it for me with a smile.

Ray - My thoughts exactly.  This is what we were taught in real estate school.  Don't worry about the $$.  Worry about your knowledge of the product and the level of your customer service.  The $$ will take care of itself.

George - I aim to entertain!!! :)

As any Realtor who's ever spent $1,000's marketing a property that never sells........1000's on the required memberships & CE, 1000's on all of the business tools needed to be a success....Countless hours working leads that never turn into a commission....This business ain't no get rich quick scheme! It is nice to see that Realtors do not show up on that list!
