Beginning in 1873 with the purchase of 52,000 acres of land filled with oak trees and luscious grass by Esequial Murrieta the founding name was made.  Soon railroad tracks were laid in the late 1800's and Murrieta became a booming town of 800 people which in those times was quite a large number. Murrieta was also popular for the Hot springs that attributed to attracting the masses nationwide. In the 1900's the Guenther family's  Murrieta Hot Springs Resort allowed for the town of Murrieta to be the hot spot for several years until the time came when economy made a downward change. It wasn't until the 1980's did Murrieta once again become a prospering town and growth began to come here in exponential amounts.

July 1, 1991 marked the day when Murrieta became a city of the county of Riverside providing residence for nearly 24,000 people. The 15 freeway, which is now the main highway, provided for development of this city and the ease for those who wished to make a commute from home to the larger workforce areas of San Diego and Orange County.  With many more schools, jobs, and homes being built it didn't take long for this city to become the fifth largest within Riverside County by the year 2005.

As Murrieta's population is growing so is its vast amount of opportunity for financially affordable homes, credited schools, and community involvement.  With several new neighborhoods being built more and more people are finding that this city is a great place to grow: families, opportunities, wealth and memories. Within the past few years of the 2000's many people have come to know Murrieta as home, but have made their place of work either North or South of this wonderful city. With places like San Diego and Orange County finding an increase in housing prices families were driven to cities like Murrieta to find an affordable yet spacious home with mountain views and plenty of land.

With this expansion of a small town, Murrieta over the years since its development has formed many new schools that have become accredited and have boasted to be some of the top schools in the Riverside County. As many as eleven elementary schools, three middles schools and two high schools are in session with plans for more of each to be made continuing to show the massive growth this city is experiencing.  Families can rest  assure that their child is receiving the best in educational care; many of these new schools have become computer friendly providing for continued skills in a generation of technology. Many universities of the state of California have recognized this explosive growth and have made satellite schools such as Azusa Pacific University offering Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Teaching, Leader ship and more.

Murrieta as a community maintains an ideal neighborhood feel. With city events such as the Father's Day car show or the Father Daughter Dance Murrieta sees family involvement as the key to a model community. There are many parks and trails within Murrieta that promote health and wellness for families to seek out activities, many of the city events are held in their parks.  Recreational activities such as music classes for tots, art classes for all ages and special senior events for the young at heart are available to all residents within Murrieta and with an extended invitation to Murrieta's neighboring cities of Menifee, Wildomar and Temecula. Sports is always a favorite pastime for all ages and Murrieta emphasizes outdoor fun with an eclectic array of sporting activities such as baseball, horseback riding, basketball and ballroom dance classes.  With the community center in Murrieta being the hub for most of these recreational activities it is very likely you will find a lot of the youth there for a safe environment to dance and hang out with other teenagers without their parents worrying.

Murrieta makes all things accessible to its residents with newer shopping malls being built Murrieta provides for all your basic needs: shelter, food, family and fun. And with this growing city comes a growing health facility. Rancho Springs Medical Center, which has been there for several years and renamed three times, has also seen the increase of its population. So in the spring of 2009 it is opening a brand new building to house more beds and increase the amount of care they can provide the community.

Murrieta is a city that honors the past and envisions the future and with all that it has to offer it is a great place to grow and live.
