Top places in the US to retire

By

The current issue of "Where to Retire" magaine lists “8 low cost towns with great home buys”.

Not surprisingly my city of Knoxville, Tennessee is one of them; in fact one of the few things below average around here are home prices.

The National Association of Realtors lists $143,000 as the median price of homes in the area with the average cost of a new, 4 bedroom home at $175,520.

Knoxville weather

No state income tax, low cost of living, lots of things to do, and temperate weather with four distinct seasons of year were all factors in selecting Knoxville as one of the eight low cost towns.

If you're approching or considering where to retire Knoxville, Tennessee has a lot to offer you.

There are 3 major interstate highways within 20 miles of Knoxville; Interstates 40 & 75 cut right through town.

Generally traffic is not a problem except during special events like the upcoming University of Tennessee vs. Florida football game. Our stadium seats over 107,000 so there will be some serious traffic before and after the game.

Knoxville is situation in a broad valley protected on one side by the Great Smoky Mountain range and the Cumberland Mountains on the opposite side so we're protected from most bad weather like tornadoes.

All in all it's a pretty cool place; why not consider it for your next vacaction.

OK Jim, so now you have how many retiring Rainers moving to Tennessee. Do you really need more Realtor competition?  :)

Sounds like a great place by the way!

Hey Jim, how close is the ocean?  ;-)

Any good-sized bodies of water around there?

Atlantic Ocean, 8 hours east at Hilton Head Island

Gulf of Mexico 8 hours south at Pensacola and Panama City.

Fort Loudon Lake, Tellico Lake, Watts Bar Lake, Melton Hill Lake, Douglas Lake, Cherokee Lake, and lots of smaller lakes all suround Knoxville.

You can put a boat in the water in Knoxville and go to the Atlantic of Gulf of Mexico.

It's pretty close to 2 oceans and lots of large bodies of water.
