OK, OK, I get it now. The economy stinks worse than Billy's gym shoes. There's got to be a way to beat this. I'm going to get Mrs. Jones to let Johnny come out to buy, if it's the last thing I ever do. But...how?
Just then, as I was sitting on the bench in front of the bank, out walked Mr. Gold, the bank president. "Well hi there Jeff. Why such a gloomy face? Did you just lose your best friend?" he asked. I said "No Mr. Gold, it's even worse. I lost my best buyer. As a matter of fact, I don't have any buyers now. Gosh, I just don't know what I'm gonna do," "Well cheer up Jeff, It's not all that bad. Why just yesterday, the President of this here United States gave my bank lot's of money to lend. Don't tell anybody Jeff, but I like that money so much, I may keep it. Now that's our little secret, right Jeff? Here, have a sucker."
Gee whiz, I was more confused than ever. If Mr. Gold wasn't gonna hand any money out, no one would ever buy from me again. The President was right. he told me in my letter that things would get worse, but then better. Boy, how I wish I knew when it would get better.
Just then, my buddy Mikey rode up on his new bike. "Wow Mikey, that's some swell bike. Where'd you get it? Mikey said, "It was a present from my dad. He got it at a big sale at the White's house. He said they have to sell everything and move to the poor house." "Holy cow, not the poor house!" I said. Hmmm, I think Mrs. Jones said something about the poor house the other day. I sure hope we don't ever have to move there. I hear there's no heat and even worse, no TV there.
It was starting to get dark, so I headed home so mom wouldn't read me the riot act for being late for dinner.
There's got to be a way....I know, I'll ask dad. he knows everything!
