Not Twittering? You better get on board!

At first glance, Twitter appears to be the underdog in the battle of social networking.  But at closer glance, Twitter is up more than 752% for the year.  That's according to Compete, website analytics.  At that rate, it won't take long for Twitter to catch up to the big dogs like Linkedin and of the monsters like Facebook.

Another interesting point to note is that MySpace is down for the year almost 10% while Facebook is up over 85%.  Those stats could be the direct result of all of us "old people" invading the tween, online space for business!

Richard- As you can see in my response to Paul, I'm still trying to get a handle on what Twitter "is"...but I'm going to keep on trying.  I have a few tips from colleagues that I'll blog about soon.  Hopefully that will help.

Don-  Business is like a home.  You're never really done with decorating, renovating or upkeep ;-)

I think twitter is just starting to become mainstream.  It won't be long till its as big as linked in or facebook.

It seems to me that a tweet is just too flittering.  If a twitter makes me go hmmm, it won't be enough for me to chase the chirping twit.  And I get nervous if I am followed.  Indeed, the cat chases the swallow.  We are not birds.  And to make a point takes more than ten words.

I got my first referral this month from a twitterfriend.  I'm a believer.  I also spent part of this afternoon getting the president of my company set up with a twitter account.

I'm a big fan of Twitter, but don't see it keeping up this pace of growth. Facebook and LinkedIn offer so much more depth and breadth of content. If either of them introduced an app with similar functionality of Twitter it would quickly become the preferred choice.

There comes a point when enough is enough technology.  I don't get twitter!  How will it help my business?

You need to be talking to real people face to face to make money in this business.  I have sold a home to someone that I did not meet until closing.  And I also have a listing right now with someone I have never met but have talked to them over the phone and we have traded emails.  But those are few and far between.

There is not enough time in the day to do it all.  You must make a choice of what will work for you and do it.  I have not figured out how twitter will sell real estate.  Maybe someone out there will convince me otherwise.

Ah Twitter.  I love Facebook and so that is easy to go on and update pretty regularly, but even though I belong to Twitter I always forget about it.  I am not sure I "get it" fully yet.  Someday.  Thanks for the reminder. =)

I don;t get to spend as much time on Twitter as I'd like.  It can be really fun, especially when something is going on...

I knew Twitter was on the rise, but these numbers are crazy! I enjoy being on Twitter and am glad to see so many other people do too.

I just posted a new blog with some tips about how to use Twitter.  Please note!  I am still new to this too but I am hoping to get a dialogue started on how we can all improve.  Check it out!

Yeah, I think one of the reason I am addicted more is due to the fact I can do it on my Blackberry all day long :)

I'm on Twitter but I don't 'get it' either. FB is so easy and I'm addicted to AR. Follow someone? Someone following me? Sounds kind of like stalking to me.

Ron- I completely agree.  Here's the new problem I have.  I am following so many people that now I can't keep up with all my Tweets!  So as I am gaining understand on one side (Having people follow me and getting my blogs more visibility), I am failing to do the same on the other. UGH!

I've had several discussions with R.E Marketing and SEO people and out of the 20 who were at the meeting only 4 people thought Twitter was a good useful tool for Realtors. But each to their own I guess...

I agree....it is tough to see how this tool can directly be effective but as you said, "to each their own"!
