The U. S. Census Bureau has officially opened its headquarters in a ribbon cutting ceremony at 6408 Edsall Rd in Alexandria in preparation for the 2010 or decennial census.
The bureau will also require additional office space in 22 counties in Northern Virginia as some 3000 census workers are hired over the next few months. The addition of new jobs in the region and the need for commercial real estate will be a welcome jolt for the local economy.
As Arnold Jackson, associate director and COO of the Decennial Census said, “We will be the biggest players in the local real estate market over the next year.”
