After a client commented on my website's blog that they found the date posts confusing--particularly if it referenced an event to take place in the future, I got to thinking. One of my goals was to post useful information on local events unique to my area of expertise. Most of my clients live on the mainland, and their trip to Maui is at a specific time, so a calendar function would certainly make it easier for them to find out what will be happening while they are here.
I love reader feedback and always try to implement changes that will make my site better for my clients. It was true that to find an event, they'd have to sift through categories or scroll through the posts. Being a non-techie, I use a template site, and while they had an open house calendar function, it wasn't formatted for an event calendar. Tech Support directed me to www.google.com/calendar.
I was pleased to find this easy to use application, and decided to post it as a subpage of my blog. The calendar is kept online with google, and updates to your website through the link. I was surprised at how easy it was to add this feature: http://www.luxuryrealestatemaui.com/maui-events-calendar.asp. You can also add event information like where to purchase tickets and contact information.
