ActiveRain's NEW Membership Plan

Just in case you missed that ActiveRain changed this morning

WHOOOOOO

Who did you think of today just before 5:00 AM PST? (that is late here... in the eastern time zone, it was 6:15 7:15 AM when I started thinking of who I should get to post their first post, so they would "get in under the wire"  I could have called a couple of people.  I think I had about 45 minutes really when I realized Brad's post said AM not PM.

Who do you wish had jumped onto ActiveRain? Or posted their first post?

The three people I thought of this morning about prodding (with a cattle prod) to get them to post were.

1. My manager who was bound and determined NOT to post.  Member, never posted.

08/12/2006 Accepted Tom (Tom.Holcombe@RealLiving.com) 58 points

2. A friend in my office who joined and then quit... I usually  forget he did not accept my invite so I never got points for him...  but it's not about the points is it? It never was.  My friend Eric*

3. Teri Lussier although she surgically removed her posts and profile from ActiveRain, Teri was "an apprentice"  in the blg ole first season of ActiveRain's Project Blogger so there is no removing all the fingerprints she left on ActiveRain.  A missing link...  was my clue she was gone...  a broken link to a post.  There have to be many.  She explains in a comment on Brad's post WHY she quit ActiveRain.

No regrets

I have a lot of other people I invited who never took the opportunity to post.... but I thought of those three people... of all those I invited who joined ( 80 + it used to say somewhere but I can not find it anymore...) those I inveted who never  become active or quit.

I did NOT think about inviting new people before 5:00 AM PST.  I have been done actively inviting for a long time on ActiveRain.  Did you think about last minute invites?

I thought about calling Tom and Eric and saying "hey post something quick..." forgetting that Eric had quit at some point.  I even thougth to call and say  "what's your password?  I will write something for you quick" ... Seriously.... but that would not have been right would it?   Mea culpa

You can bring a horse to water but you can not make them...

Of course we will all be watching to see how this works out for ActiveRain.  Will people pay?  I see a few loop holes in the plan. Cheryl Johnson pointed out it changes the plan for Localism again...

"On the other hand, that kind of wipes out the idea of opening Localism up to small local non-real estate businesses."

ch, ch, changes....

EDIT* 2013 WOW not a friend anymore and it was linking to his site.

I knew you'd have a post on this.  My immediate thought was, "Would any of us had paid $29 per month to join?"  I don't think I would have.

It will be interesting to see what works and what doesn't.  I wish some of my invitees had taken advantage of the opportunity.  Those who have their heads in the sand will lose.

Don  I am predictable huh?  thanks for joining when you did and posting your first post, long, long ago.... you were one who took some prodding... Or did you join and NOT participate for awhile.

Joan At first I would not have paid $29 then there was a time I was just waiting to pay.. then the Localism landrush...

There were a couple of challenges posting this... changes... lost one draft....

I am such a procrastinator... that is my super power on the Google "profile" thing I did recently.

I joined ActiveRain and did not come back to AR for a week or so.  A little more procratination and I might have forgot all about it...  and things would have been different... changes...

I'll just keep repeating to myself.....

nothing changes for current AR members with Blogs

nothing changes for current AR members with Blogs

nothing changes for current AR members with Blogs

nothing changes for current AR members with Blogs

nothing changes for current AR members with Blogs

nothing changes for current AR members with Blogs

nothing changes for current AR members with Blogs

nothing changes for current AR members with Blogs

except doesn't stuff change?  there are changes for

"Existing" members....

I don't think that those who did not see the value for free will see a value now... maybe it is a whole different group of people that they are targeting now.

Maureen Francis brought up a real important question... it is pay as you go.  Stop paying and your old content disappears?  Or does it stay up?

Maureen, it's much easier to judge an event after time has passed ..the history channel has done quite well teaching us about the past. I think we will have to wait a while to gain some perspective on this move. We all the Government is fond of repealing prior actions..will will have to see!

I now have several new people in my office (new to my office, not new to the biz) and I hadn't quite got around to sending all of them invites.

One had been sent an invite, but hadn't yet responded.  When I first misread the post as 5:00 PM, I thought I still had a chance, then I realized it was 5:00 AM.  Oh well.  Sigh.

Thanks Cheryl for answering WHOOOOO...

Other than snagging newbies (new to AR w/ my click to join ActiveRain button) I was done with actively inviting members since I felt like I could not keep up with all the changes myself. I am not a teacher.  I would be tempted occasonally but then would decide not to invite people because if I did not want to figure stuff out for myself I certainly did not want to figure it out for someone else.

My guess is that it will disappear and only the members only posts will remain.  New bloggers would be better off learning here and putting their local content on their own blogs just to control it.  Wordpress is free.  So is blogger.  There are so many platforms to chose from.

Thanks MF "My guess is that it will disappear"

It being Localism?

Noooo... she's saying  the paid members content if they stop paying?  Responding to Maureen Francis brought up a real important question... it is pay as you go.  Stop paying and your old content disappears?  Or does it stay up?

OK so I take the family on a 3 day vacation and AR turns upside down. Am I hearing that it now costs $29 a month to blog on AR?

hummm..... I wonder if I would have joined AR for 29/month when I started...

I do not think so. I have a WP blog and would have stayed on it...

hope you are having a nice year!

I am sorry about the missing links, Maureen.

I had reduced my AR blog to bare bones last year- really only leaving it at all because of your links. A few weeks ago, I figured that enough time had passed that would allow me to quietly slip out the door unnoticed. :-)

"sparkleberry"

I'm feeling it. :)

Charles I am sure I would not.  I have been waiting for a good way for them to monetize it for a long time. Paid for communities on Localiism for months despite they never launched it after the "landrush" I was disappointed that is how they chose to monetize... I paid for lead router for about 3 months but quit that in a snit when the community builders annoyed me. It had more to do with Localism than lead router.

Don't worry about missing links Teri... they happen.  That's evolution.

Somehow I noticed about two weeks after you left.
