KGHB is hosting the Community Gardening presentation this Thursday, January 31 at 7:00 p.m. Billy Clark, Master Gardener and Master Composter will provide the public with information and PowerPoint about Community Gardening – please invite your neighbors and friends – I hope we have a good turnout!
Location: 1938 Hampton Rd in City Hall building.

glenn heights: Keep Glenn Heights Beautiful- Clean up event was Great! - 04/17/12 08:23 AM
This past Saturday the citizens of Glenn Heights volunteered to clean up their city streets.  There was a great turn out of 50 volunteers.  We noticed this year the streets were not as dirty as the first year.  This leads us to believe that our efforst are paying off.
The estimates are in- 2070 lbs of litter was picked up from the streets and disposed of properly.  Wow!
225 hrs of work was put in by the volunteers.  A big thank you to the city staff for helping make this event run smoothly and without incident.

Being single, I can find ways to keep my living expenses down.  For example-
1.  unplug any appliances or electronics that are not being used.  When I am not using my paper shredder it is not plugged in.
2.  only turn on the light in the room that you are in for the moment.
3.  open windows when there is a cool breeze that way you won't have to use your ceiling fan or ac.
4.  keep only minimal groceries in your fridge that way the fridge is not working hard to keep the perishables at the proper temperature.

It's just around the corner.  We are getting ready for our citywide clean up.  All are invited to come out and lend a helping hand.
The event takes place on April 13-14.  We will meet at Heritage Park at 8:30 am to register and pick up the needed supplies.
You can pre register online by going to the city's website- www.glennheights.com
You will receive a free lunch and tshirt following the clean up.  Meet back at the park at noon to sign back in and return your supplies.

This year will be the 10th Annual Easter Egg Scramble sponsored by Glenn Heights Police and Fire Department.
When: March 24, 2012
Where: Heritage Park- 400 E. Bear Creek Road
Time: 10:00 am to 11:00 am
Thousands of eggs will be distributed throughout the park.  Ages 0-10 years are welcome to participate.
Parents bring your children out for this fun and exciting event.  And don't forget to bring your cameras.

Just a little insight to get you up to date:
Keep Glenn Heights Beautiful also known as KGHB won first place in the 2011 Governor's Community Achievement Award.  The City of Glenn Heights was so proud when they heard the news.  The members are made up of Chairman- Carl Whitehead, Co-chair- Dawn Freeman, Treasurer- Thomas Calhoun, Secretary- Angelia Garcia and Coordinator- Connie Hearne.
The first place prize was $160,000 to be utilized for landscaping/beautification project.  TX Dot will oversee the project.

It has now been two years since we first had our first meeting for Keep Glenn Heights Beautiful.  Since then we have a full Board to include the Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary.  We have monthly meetings to discuss upcoming events and ways to get new volunteers.
This year we decided to move forward with a new project.  The Adopt a Highway program.  In Texas, it all began in the Tyler District back in 1985.  And has been growing and getting stronger over the years.  The last numbers showed that 1.3 million volunteers have participated throughout America.  In Texas, more … (3 comments)

This is our second year of contributing to the beautification of Glenn Heights.  Glenn Heights is a small city in comparison to the surrounding cities.  Its located in between Desoto, Red Oak and Lancaster.
So small that it does not have its own school system.  Students use Desoto and Red Oak ISD.
Our calendar of events included more participation from our youth population.  That is very impressive.  Who new that our children wanted to learn about recycling, Arbor Day, Earth Day and cleaning up its streets and parks.

Dog is on the back porch looking in.  Kittens are inside the kitchen door looking out.  Dog teases kittens by laughing and sticking its tongue out.
 
      
I know the kittens can't wait to get older so they can terrorize the dogs in the backyard.

Come join us on Sept 10-12 for fun and entertainment.

I was on the steering committee for this event.  It takes up alot of your free time but I enjoyed it.  I made new friends and learned more about the wonderful city of Glenn Heights.
All the volunteers on the steering committee provided their talents and knowledge to make it come together smoothly.
Next year the City is planning to have the event again.  Vendors if you are interested in participating the applications are online.

I can't even remember our first meeting.  Been awhile indeed.  We are in the lasts weeks of making sure everything is in place for the celebration.
The event takes place on September 10,11 and 12.  Times vary. 
Sept. 10 Family Night Out 6p-9pm
Sept.11 Patriot Day 6p-10pm
Sept. 12 Founder's Day 10a-10pm
Entertainment includes a children's carnival, snake encounters, craft vendors, health related vendors, food vendors, fireworks, music with DJ, dance competition, honoring our military, police, and fire personnel, plus much more.
No entry fee charged, come out and enjoy all the festivities.  Several vendors will have raffle drawings.

glenn heights: Potty training your beloved pets. - 08/24/09 05:29 AM
I have had the task of training my 3 kittens to use the litter box.  And that is really wearing me down.  Two of the kittens have been on their game.  They go to the litter box without me placing them in it.  Sure I had to show them initially because momma cat was not showing them.  I would find little puddles in the corner of the room.  I have laminate flooring and this can not go on much longer.  One  kitten in particular is having a hard time catching on.  I would place her in the box and she would … (9 comments)

It is now going on 4 weeks since Marci delivered her babies.  They are walking around and getting real frisky.  I am trying to wean them off of Marci.  I bought can food to start with.  Is it too soon?
I think they are all girls.  I looked and they resemble Marci's backside.  I hope I got it right.
The black kittens are really getting attached to me.  They let me hold them and when they hear my voice they start crying out.

It has been over two weeks now since Marci gave birth to her little ones.  They are learning how to walk, have their eyes open and are very hungry.
It is so funny to see them fighting over the same nipple.  I think I will have to trim their nails so no one gets hurt.  To this day, I still can't figure out if they are girls or boys.

I love watching them everyday.  I check in on them several times through out the day.  I can't wait for their eyes to open.  One of the striped ones is so whiney.  My husband thinks I will keep them all.  No telling.  The two striped and one black are boys.  That leaves the other two black kittens girls.  I can tell when Marci gets impatient with the whiney one.

glenn heights: Glenn Heights' community park is now called Heritage Park. - 07/15/09 01:16 PM
Located on Bear Creek, one of the main streets in Glenn Heights.  You can't help but pass it everyday.
The sign in the entrance used to say Community Park.  The new name is Heritage Park.  The park provides two baseball fields, several soccer fields, a walking trail, a concession stand with restrooms, a playground, a basketball court and finally the swamp grounds.
