rockhounding: Red Creek Garnet - 10/05/08 10:18 AM

Last weekends adventure was looking for Garnets up near the Red Creek by Browns Park, Utah.  We traveled a couple hours to get there.
As soon as we started to head out from the car to start searching one of the guys in our group looked down and there at the beginning was a beauty of a Garnet.  It was the find of the day!  We found some wonderful smaller Garnets and took some home to uncover that are still in their matrix or surrounding material.

rockhounding: Rock Pick Legends Rock Shop..Check It Out! - 05/15/08 05:48 PM
I ran into the Rock Pick Legends Rock Shop in Salt Lake City  just before they closed on Wednesday  to pick up some polishing grit for our tumblers and ended up buying a great deal on used polisher, grinder and saw set combo. Check out their website on equipment and rocks they offer.  There are some fun rocks to look at in their store location.
My husband started working with lapidary equipment when was younger and now he is finally getting back to the hobby.  We have collected some wonderful rock specimens and hope to do some cuts and polishing soon.

rockhounding: Agate Adventures Utah - 05/04/08 12:34 PM
This weekend while in Southern Utah for my son-in-laws graduation for Cedar City SUU we spent some time gathering agates. 
 The area up toward Fiddlers Canyon in Cedar City has some nice agates but we never were able to find our way into the canyon from the current streets.
The Summit area South of Beaver had some colorful pieces and I even picked up a couple of lava rocks for my yard.  They had more cracks in them but the colors were great.
