2012 is off to a great start when it comes to home sales in Lafayette parish and Acadiana.
The number of home sales pending continues to steadily climb as well. As of now, pending sales are just 4 short of 700. Last April, there were 543 sales pending at this time.
Meanwhile, inventory of homes for sale remains low for this time of year. The number of homes on the market actually went down this past month.
I'm having to say it again... If you are considering selling your home, now is a great time to do it as competition is … (1 comments)

la: Depot Gift Shop and Train Museum in Abbeville, LA - 03/29/12 01:16 AM
This place was screaming for a picture. This is the Depot Gift Shop and Train Museum on Lafayette Street in Abbeville.

There is so much going on in the little side yard. I really love the way the picture turned out after I spent a little bit of time playing with it. Most of this was achieved with an app called "Dynamic Light" for iPad and now available for Mac computers. I had lots of fun with this one!

la: Lafayette Pending Home Sales Keep Rising! - 03/15/12 10:28 PM
Pending home sales in Lafayette are on the rise, still. I began following pending data in the spring last year and have never seen such high numbers. To be sure, our home sales are up as well so far this year when compared to last year and 2010.
Meanwhile, our inventory is having a hard time catching up. It remains low at this point, especially when considering the number of home sales pending in the area.
If you have been thinking about selling your home, now is the time to put it on the market. Contact me today for your confidential … (0 comments)

la: I'm Back! - 02/27/12 11:54 PM
I don't like leaving my blog for lengthy periods of times. I always feel guilty when I do that. My excuse: I just spent the most wonderful three weeks with my parents who live in Canada. Because of the distance, we do not see each other very often, once or twice a year at the most. Our visit began in Orlando and Disney for a few days. It was the first visit for all of us and what memories we now have.

My daughter who is 6 years old will likely remember this trip. She was a real trooper, too, … (1 comments)

la: Car in a tree in Abbeville, LA - 01/11/12 12:00 PM
Yes, it is a real car up in the tree. This car has been there for as long as I can remember (15+years). My husband says that there used to be another car in that tree when he was a child. Why they keep putting cars in the tree, I'm not sure. To make people talk, perhaps?

I was tempted to say "only in Louisiana" but I'm sure there are other cars in trees somewhere. If you want to see the car in the tree for yourself, it is on Hwy 82, just north of Abbeville.

If you are looking for property in Vermilion parish to build a nice home, you need to consider Bayou Marron Subdivision just south of Abbeville and about 5 minutes from downtown. Located off of S. Henry, Bayou Marron is a small oasis filled with mature trees along Coulee Kinney and just a few feet away from the Vermilion River.

One of the lots I just listed (above) has water frontage and is .65 acre. It is available for $30,000. The lot next to it is also available. It is .81 acre and listed for $14,000. These two lots are on … (2 comments)

la: Sugarcane Still Burning in Vermilion Parish - 01/07/12 11:40 AM
There is still quite a bit of sugarcane burning going on in Vermilion parish these days. I'm thinking it's probably close to the end but every day this week, I've seen the dark smoke clouds in the skies around our home in Maurice.

Some of you may wonder why farmers burn the sugarcane in the first place. According to LSU Ag Center, there are several reasons: lower cost of production and more efficient harvesting of the cane, it reduces the amount of cane being transported and thereby reduces the number of hauling trucks on public roads (less wear and tear … (3 comments)

la: Real Estate Market Report for Lafayette, LA and Acadiana - 2011 in Review - 01/04/12 05:28 AM
December was a great month for home sales in Acadiana and in Lafayette parish. In the parish, more homes sold in December than in November or October. This may be a sign of great things to come for this beginning of 2012.
If we look at home sales in Lafayette parish for 2011 when compared to 2010, we see the same trend up towards the end of the year. There were fewer home sales in Lafayette parish in 2011 (2134 vs 2265 in 2010), however, the average sale's price was up from $192,794 to $199,849.
In Acadiana as a whole, there … (2 comments)

la: Maurice Home Sales Saw Boom in 2011 - 12/17/11 05:49 AM
Home sales in Maurice, LA, rose sharply in 2011 mainly because of new construction in the area. Of the 65 homes that have sold so far this year, 35 were new homes. Last year, only 4 homes out of the 41 homes sold were new construction.

There are currently 12 home sales pending, 4 of which are scheduled to close before the end of the year. That would bring the total number of sales to 69 for 2011. Nine of the 12 pending sales are also new construction (in Kirkland Estates).
Two subdivisions mostly contributed to these numbers: Kirkland Estates, … (1 comments)

la: Looking for a home to rent of lease around Lafayette, LA? - 11/21/11 12:40 AM
As a Realtor, I often get calls on my listings from people who are looking for homes to rent or lease (they want to know if my sellers would lease and well, most sellers actually want to sell). Unlike homes for sale which can be found in the MLS, there is no one database for rentals in Acadiana but there are a couple of places where you should look if you are looking to rent or lease a home in our area:
Quick Quarter: This is a Classifieds-only publication that comes out once a week. You can find it in convenience … (0 comments)

la: Flippin' over Flips! - 11/16/11 12:13 AM
With interest rates remaining very low, investors are out looking for properties where they can put their money to work for them and make a profit. One way some are doing this is by flipping properties or the process of finding, fixing, and reselling homes.
The book "Flip" is, in my opinion, the best "how to" manual on the subject (and I've read a few). In fact, when I received a call from a friend last week who told me she was looking for her first flip, I told her to get a copy of the book immediately.
As with any … (3 comments)

la: The Grotto in Bancker, Louisiana - 10/31/11 03:06 AM
My daughter and I drove around this weekend searching for cemeteries and cool places to photograph. Yesterday, we went down to Bancker, Louisiana, to what used to be a thriving plantation community south of Abbeville. This is where we found the Grotto and a memorial park still in progress.

Bancker was founded in the late 1800s by families of Acadian, Spanish, German, and Danish descent. The Grotto was built in 1935 by Father DeVos to honor our Lady of Lourdes. It stand a few yards away from the cemetery.

The cemetery is for the most part in good to … (7 comments)
