Olympia Family Theater is presenting performances of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" through this weekend - and I can't wait to go see the Saturday matinee with my granddaughter!!  We checked out the book that the play is based on from the local library, so she is familiar with the story and excited to go see it.
The play will be in the Black Box at Olympia's Washington Center for the Performing Arts at 512 Washington St in downtown Olympia.  Performances are at 7 PM May 26-28th plus 2:00 PM on Saturday & Sunday (May 28-29).

childrens activities: Timberland Regional Library - Kids Welcome!! - 01/31/11 08:38 AM
Timberland Regional Library - kids welcome!  On a rainy day, the library can be the perfect place to have fun inside, entertain those restless kids - and read some books.  I was lucky enough to grow up with a love of all the magical places and people available inside books, and am happily encouraging that same love of books in my granddaughter.

We usually go to the Lacey, WA branch of Timberland Regional Library, and the children's area is a pretty fascinating place!  Kids can play with toys, put together jigsaw puzzles (we did a great big one of … (0 comments)

childrens activities: Why Yes That IS Play Doh in Our Conference Room - 09/27/10 10:50 AM

Yes, on any given day you may find play doh in our City Realty office conference room - dinosaurs are particularly popular, though not always recognizable!  Perhaps because we are a small office with 6 preschool age kids collectively among our own group we have quite a few toys available to entertain and distract any little visitors.

Legos, stuffed animals, a doll house, a fire truck, puzzles and books galore - no we are not a toy store, we are a real estate office.  And wow do those toys come in handy when we are meeting with a young … (2 comments)

Hands on Childrens Museum in Olympia: Children at work having fun!  This museum has so many areas for kids to explore and learn and generally have a ball!  The first Friday evening of every month is free admission, and the resulting chaos of happy, busy kids is priceless.
Divided into a number of areas where kids can unleash their creativity, Hands on Childrens Museum includes many real life scenarios for them to experience.
I followed my granddaughter as she made her way to the "garden" where she could "water" vegetables growing in rows, or pick them and load them … (2 comments)

childrens activities: Remembering my Leafy Green Secret Hideaway! - 06/21/10 10:44 AM
While I was taking photos of a new listing this morning, I found myself more and more mesmerized by the large tree in the front yard, with the kind of low, plentiful branches that just call out to be climbed!  Do kids still climb trees?  When I was growing up, we had an enormous maple tree in the front yard with lots of branches low enough to start a climb.  I LOVED that tree!  It provided me a leafy green draped perch where I could sit, hidden from sight, and daydream.

Once in a while I would get really adventurous … (4 comments)

childrens activities: Baby Animal Time at Olympia's Lattin Farms - 04/16/10 10:23 AM
What a fun visit we had yesterday to Lattin's Farm in Olympia!!  Springtime is baby animal time and the farm had lots of babies to admire and photograph!
I think that my little granddaughter liked the baby goats best - and I have to admit they were super cute!  The littlest ones were fast asleep together under a tree.

The slightly bigger ones were busy chasing each other and playing, and then detouring over to mom for a quick snack!

The floppy ears on these little goats were part of their charm.

There were also baby bunnies, … (12 comments)

Tomorrow in downtown Olympia, … (2 comments)

childrens activities: Sand in the City was a Blast!! - 08/23/09 09:55 AM
I got to enjoy this year's Sand in the City in Olympia with my son and my little 2 year old granddaughter - & what fun it was!  The sand sculptures are just amazing - so much detail and very witty besides!

Everything from scenes out of Madagascar and Ice Age to tugboat eating crabs!

Watching the master sculptors at work was fascinating, too, as they meticulously added detail to their work.

And besides lots of music to enjoy, the Hands on Children's Museum had plenty of craft tables to entice children to make a mosaic necklace or … (4 comments)

childrens activities: Lacey Rotary 20th Duck Dash - 06/08/09 07:14 AM
This past Saturday we went to the Lacey Rotary Duck Dash in Tumwater Falls Park & it was a blast!  I'm not sure how we managed to have not gone before this year since this is the 20th year it has been held, but I'm glad we got there finally this time.  Our almost 2 year old granddaughter thought it was a great idea right from the time we parked and rode on the shuttle bus to the event (actually she has been wanting to ride the bus again ever since!).

The park had games, a giant slide, face painting, … (3 comments)

childrens activities: Olympia Area Favorites - Gym Jam (Lacey Parks) - 03/28/09 09:37 AM
If you  have any toddlers in your family, check out the Gym Jam program offered through Lacey Parks Department!  I got to go visit last week while my granddaughter (19 months old) enjoyed activities, play time with other kids her age & provided grandma with lots of "photo opportunities"!
Gym jam is well organized to keep the kids moving between play time on the mats, slide, crawl thru tunnel, riding toys, "bus" to go inside and regular learning activities.  They sang and acted out songs like "Itsy Bitsy Spider" (remember that one??) and "If You're Happy and You Know it ..."; … (0 comments)
