Thomas Dodge House, 58 Harbor Road The Thomas Dodge House (a Town of North Hempstead Historic Landmark and listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places) is thought to be the oldest house still standing in the Port Washington area (c. 1721). Thomas Dodge built the house after migrating to Cow Neck from Block Island in 1718. Seven generations of the Dodge family lived in the house. The house has changed little since its construction. The latest additions to the series of books by Arcadia Publishing called Images of America will be available July 27th. Port Washington and Roslyn are included in the new additions.The Port Washington version is authored by Port resident Elly Shodell. She has been director of the oral history program at the Port Washington Public Library since 1983, and she is the recipient of the 1999 Forrest C. Pogue Award in Oral History. The Port Washington Public Library has been documenting Port's transformations since 1982, through its collection of more than 30,000 photographic prints, negatives, and slides.

Traditionally, individuals have been permitted to deduct mortgage interest paid on mortgages up to $1 million for a principal residence and one additional residence. In addition, mortgage interest on up to $100,000 of debt on home equity loans or lines of credit also qualifies for the deduction. The Polar Plunge will take place on February 28, 2009 at North Hempstead Beach Park, NY (formerly Bar Beach). Registration begins at 9:00 am and the plunge is at noon.
