The average listing price at the time of sale was $744,000 (compared to the original asking price of $774,000), and the average sold price was $694,000. Harborfest, Port Washington's Annual Celebration of the town's Nautical Heritage, was held at the town dock at lower Main St. on June 7.

There was Art in the Park and Nautical Museum Exhibit, entertainment, food, farmer's market, crafts, jewelry, Chamber of Commerce booths, fun park, cruises, horse show, trolley rides, kayaking, stage coach rides, and so much more.Here are a few pictures from that day. The Thomas Dodge House (a Town of North Hempstead Historic Landmark and listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places) is thought to be the oldest house still standing in the Port Washington area (c. 1721). Thomas Dodge built the house after migrating to Cow Neck from Block Island in 1718. Seven generations of the Dodge family lived in the house. The house has changed little since its construction. Port Washington and Roslyn are included in the new additions.The Port Washington version is authored by Port resident Elly Shodell. She has been director of the oral history program at the Port Washington Public Library since 1983, and she is the recipient of the 1999 Forrest C. Pogue Award in Oral History. Traditionally, individuals have been permitted to deduct mortgage interest paid on mortgages up to $1 million for a principal residence and one additional residence. In addition, mortgage interest on up to $100,000 of debt on home equity loans or lines of credit also qualifies for the deduction. The National Association of Realtors is concerned about the planned provision in the 2010 budget plan, reducing the rate at which some taxpayers would benefit from this deduction. The Polar Plunge will take place on February 28, 2009 at North Hempstead Beach Park, NY (formerly Bar Beach). Registration begins at 9:00 am and the plunge is at noon. The Polar Plunge is the largest fundraising effort benefiting Special Olympics in the state. Its purpose is to raise funds to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Property tax relief is on the way for strapped homeowners in Nassau County. In addition to a proposed 4% statewide cap on increases by Gov. Paterson, Thomas R. Suozzi, County Executive, has announced a new assessor and ordered a top to bottom review of the assessment system.
