When you hear Gulf Shores, Alabama, you think of white sandy beaches, beautiful blue skies and emerald green water. All of this is so true, but there is even more behind the beauty and beyond the beaches of Gulf Shores. The list of activities in the surrounding Gulf Shores area is full of endless fun with Alligator Alley and the Biophilia Nature Center, Mobile Bay Ferry, Dauphin Island Sea Lab, and much more.
If you are a history buff, take a trip back in time with Baldwin County's rich history that dates back to 1809, located at the Baldwin County Heritage Museum in Elberta. You will find buildings that resemble turn-of-the-century barns, as well as a working windmill and several outdoor agricultural exhibits.
To the north lies Historic Blakeley State Park in Spanish Fort. You will find nearly 11 miles of amazing hiking and bike trails and a boardwalk next to the Tensaw River, and visitors will be able to fully explore the site of the Civil War's last major battle. Don’t forget to stop by Fort Mims Historic Site in Stockton, where Creek Indians killed over 500 pioneer settlers.
