Almost Speechless Sunday- Pretty in Pink!

This is a favorite out at Green Cay... the Roseate Spoonbill.   Many visitors to Green Cay mistake them for Flamingos, but I think these beautiful birds are just as interesting.  Like other birds, their plumage was sought after for many years, causing these striking creatures to drop to  only 30 or 40 breeding pairs in Florida.  Conservation and placing them on a protected list has brought the population up to over 1000 pairs in our state.  
As they wade through shallow water, their heads go back and forth with their bills in the water until they feel "dinner".   They're not always out at Green Cay but if you go early in the morning you might get a chance to see them.  Don't forget to bring your camera!
