Kindergarten - my life began, Dixie's life ends . . .
 My father was a Chaplin in the Army and he had recently returned from Korea and so we were living together in a "non-military" home in my mother's hometown (Dauphin, PA) as a family.   It was very nice to have a real home and not typical of most of the years of my life.  We lived right across the Street from the Middle Paxton Elementary School in Dauphin, PA.  The house was for sale about 2 years ago and this is a picture of my house! 
In those days students that lived a mile or less from the school were considered "walkers."  I walked to school - it was a very short and enjoyable jaunt across the street and into my kindergarten class. 
My teacher was Miss Valentine and she was definitely the love of my life (except for my kitty - Dixie).  I don't remember a lot about what I did during the 1/2 day hours of my kindergarten class, but I remember Miss Valentine and how much she loved me and how dedicated she seemed to be to ME!  (I assume that the rest of the class felt the same way about Miss Valentine!)
