2017 Board Test Week: Variable Conditions Close Out Crested Butte Test
Mike Horn brought Board Week, a split board test, to Crested Butte, Colorado from Vermont just about a decade ago and has remained a fundamental member of the testing team. “Even a lot of the terrain in the ski area, once you get off the beaten path, has a backcountry feel to it,” says Horn. “It’s super challenging and you can get as spicy as you want.”
A crew of 11 split boarders spent the last week riding at Crested Butte Mountain Resort and the surrounding backcountry at Irwin Guides, putting more than 20 splitboards to the test. Irwin Guides Cat Skiing provides access to some of the best snow and terrain in all of Colorado. However, as we all know, backcountry conditions will vary and this past week we saw temperatures spiking well into the 40’s during the day and falling drastically at night providing some of the toughest conditions of Board Week.
