52 Saturdays - Week 13 - The SC State House in Columbia, SC
  Sitting on roughly 18 acres of incredibly well manicured grounds, The South Carolina State House in Columbia, SC stares out at the city from from literally the middle of Main Street as the road dead ends into the Capitol and begins again on the other side of the building.
  Constructed from blue granite with her distinct front columns and massive copper dome, the South Carolina State House stands approximately 180 feet tall and 300 feet wide. Trust me when I tell you that you can see that dome from all over downtown.
 
  There are guided walking tours of the inside of the State House that start about every 30 minutes and the inside is truly a sight to behold as well. As for me, I prefer the self guided tour of the grounds outside the State House. They are beautiful and currently full of color with Spring's arrival.
  The History of the South Carolina State House is well worth a read as well. The Bronze stars on the side of the building, 6 of them in all, mark areas damaged by Sherman's troops firing cannons at the State House in his march on Columbia.
