seo: Google is going to public shame you ! - 08/01/18 10:06 AM

A quick note to say "thanks" to everyone for the warm welcome back messages in my previous post. I never really left ActiveRain but I haven't posted in a really long time so here I am again and it's really nice to see so many familiar faces and new ones as well.

Before I get to the fun stuff, I wanted to explain why Google is forcing all websites to start using the HTTPS protocol. I'll try to explain this in plain English without getting "too techie" on you.
For the past few weeks I've been updating all of my client's websites over to HTTPS … (95 comments)

seo: Build a Better Blog... there are no magic beans - 11/14/10 07:13 PM

This is the 3rd post in my Build a Better Blog series that will look at design concepts related to every blog platform including ActiveRain, WordPress, Posterous, etc...
Since I started talking about themes a few days ago in my WordPress in Plain English series, I've been getting comments, questions and emails asking "Which theme is best for SEO?".

There’s a ton of misinformation and misunderstanding floating around about “SEO friendly themes”, especially when it comes to WordPress. Today I'll try to clear up some of the confusion and mythology without getting too techie, too preachy or too … (43 comments)

In case you missed it or you don't hang out with the geek crowd, there's been a buzz in the past few days about a lot of Twitter profiles showing up in the top 10 search results on Google.

Before I explain why I think this is so important and has tons of possibilities, let's take a couple of minutes to read a post by Patrick Altoft over at BlogStorm.com that explains in non techie language what seems to be going on. Here it is...

Also, if you haven't seen it, check out an article in this week's Broker Agent News titled Real Estate Agents Should Brand Themselves Like Their #1 Listing To Grow Their Business  I love the line about "branding is what people say about you when you're not around."

If you're new to Active Rain, check out a recent post by Jo-Anne Smith titled A Post For Tim and All Other ActiveRain Newbies (and maybe some 'Oldies' too). It's a great primer on getting started on AR and jam packed with useful info, tips and ways to connect with other Rainers.

August 7th, 2007...
this week I'd like to send out a special welcome to all the new members and a BIG thank you to the new bloggers that have added some great content to the marketing group in the past couple of weeks.
Before getting into the outstanding marketing posts, since we're still getting a lot of off topic content (i.e. property listings, poetry, outright self promotion, etc...) as well as the occasional spam, I'd like to encourage everyone, especially the newbies to read featured posts & group guidelines
Speaking of groups, I'd like to give a special thank you to Alexander Harb and Diane Rice for their much appreciated comments & thoughts … (52 comments)

Hi everyone...
something I accidentally stumbled upon while searching thru stuff on Active Rain this past weekend was how important it is to remember that this is a social network. When I signed up on AR last year, I was totally ignorant about commenting or how powerful commenting could be.
I'm probably thinking about comments today because lately, a lot has been said, written and debated about comments for points, lack of comments, inappropriate comments, etc...
In the past few days I've seen my name pop up in a few posts because of comments I've … (48 comments)

hi everyone. Well it's official, this week our little marketing group here on Active Rain passed the 2000 member mark.
Since that number includes many new members, before pointing out some of this week's outstanding marketing posts, I'd like to encourage everyone to read the following posts in particular because they bring up and address some of the problems in a growing online community or social network like Active Rain.

hi everyone. As the marketing group approaches the 2000 member mark, I'd like to thank all of you for your great posts, comments and participation. I'm constantly impressed by the high quality of content being posted and the diversity of feedback, opinions and information sharing that goes on here on Active Rain.
That being said, I'd like to point out a few blogs that really caught my eye recently. Some are from well established members as well as great stuff from some of the newer faces here on AR.

Before I begin my first blog here on Active Rain and for those of you who don't know me, I thought I'd explain a little about who I am and why I'm here. I'd also like to say how much I've enjoyed reading so many of the great bloggers on AR and a special thank you to Matt, Jonathan, Caleb and everyone else at AR for putting this whole site … (34 comments)
