Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain today but the sun appeared for a few minutes this afternoon to brighten the view from my office window.

Wordless Wednesday:  Gaiser Conservatory at Manito Park, Spokane WA

A visit to any one of the many beautiful parks in Spokane is a delightful experience.  However, the Gaiser Conservatory (in Manito Park) is a year round showcase of tropical, sub-tropical and temperate plants that you don't want to miss.  Colorful, beautiful, and interesting are just a few of the adjectives that describe the displays.

spokane washington: Antiques Roadshow Came and Went - 06/08/15 08:05 AM
Antiques Roadshow Came and Went

Anticipation was half the fun surrounding a visit to Spokane by  Antiques Roadshow.  Our tickets arrived on schedule along with instructions and tips to make the experience THE BEST.

Volunteers, roadshow employees, appraisers, convention center workers all pulled together to keep attendees moving along and headed in the right direction.  The event was very, very  well organized.  I guess after 20 seasons, these folks should know exactly how to move and manage a crowd.

My wife and I didn't fund our retirement with a valuable painting from an obscure and rare artist nor did we even … (3 comments)

spokane washington: What's in your attic? - 03/19/15 04:56 AM
What's in your attic?

Local Public Broadcasting Station (KSPS) which brings the ever popular Antiques Roadshow to this broadcast area has announced a six-city summer tour.  The lucky cities are  Spokane, Tucson, Omaha, Cleveland, Little Rock and Charleston. The Spokane show will be taped from the Spokane Convention Center June 6, 2015.

KSPS is taking this opportunity to fund-raise (of course)  and to drum up interest and generate excitement around the show.  I'm helping! You can even sign up for the Antiques Roadshow Fanfare weekly newsletter.

Is Spokane, Washington a top place to retire?  More than 10,000 people per day are entering the baby boomer classification and thoughts of retirement and relocation begin to occupy more of their time.  They want to make decisions before health and money issues prevent them from making those choices.
According to one source, Grandparents.com, affordability is an important criteria and Ellen Breslau, editor-in-chief, announced in a recent press release, “We’ve found that when it comes to retirement, people want the whole package:  places that are beautiful, cultural, the living is easy and their nest egg won’t get tapped out.”  Six cities were selected … (0 comments)

spokane washington: Spokane, Washington a Lilac City - 05/15/12 09:29 AM
Spokane, Washington a Lilac City

Just look around............they are blooming everywhere;  enjoy the fragrant blossoms.

Lilacs  were introduced to this area in the early 20th century -  1906 as the story goes.  Spokane's parks and gardens became home to many varieties of the hearty blooming shrub and Spokane earned its nickname the "Lilac City" in 1930.

The word "lilac" doesn't adequately describe the shades of purple reflected in the extensive varieties.  Purple deepens to burgundy, and white as well as pink are quite common. The hardy shrubs survive and thrive in Spokane's warm summer and cold winter climate.  Did you know.........lilacs can grow from 6' to … (1 comments)
