31 days of may challenge: ActiveRainPhotoBloggerContest This Photo Tells Many Stories - 05/10/11 06:15 AM

The Kruschkas live in Lake Ridge, a 38,000 person subdivision in Northern Virginia's Prince William County about 40 minutes south of Washington, DC. Lake Ridge is sited on 4,400 acres of which 1,200 acres are heavily wooded common ground.
Our subdivision and county are separated from Fairfax County to our north by the 2,100 acre Occoquan Reservoir which is the source of much of the water supply for both counties.
Fortunately for us Prince William County decided to build a park and marina on our side of the reservoir. It has a 9-hole Par3 golf course, pro shop. miniature golf, playground, rental … (36 comments)

Why little white picket fences were invented
There is an excellent supply of homes with little white picket fences in Prince William County. Of course, there are many other factors you will want to consider when buying a home other than a little white picket fence. It may include commuting options, school requirements and recreation. Whatever they may be my team has 35 years experience in Woodbridge, Dumfries, Manassas, Bristow, Gainesville, Haymarket - all of Prince William County
When we find a home that meets your criteria it may not have a little white picket fence. Don't worry, I know where … (18 comments)

31 days of may challenge: Mom, What's A Kentucky Derby? - 05/07/11 08:47 AM

Since horse racing is not a major legal sport in Virginia, it is not at all surprising that the colt is unaware of the significance of today's 137th running of the Kentucky Derby. Horse lovers in Prince William and the rest of Virginia necessarily concentrate on horse shows with jumping and dressage events, steeplechase, trail riding and riding for relaxation in addition to other classifications. You may also be unaware that Virginia is generally given credit for the development of the American Quarter Horse - you thought we only reared Presidents. (8 of them to date)While I love horses I … (17 comments)

31 days of may challenge: Brand Yourself With A Simple But Distinctive Map - 05/05/11 10:53 AM
This simple, but distinctive map is included in my generalized posts about Northern Virginia. It is simple, but colorful and it provides me with an image that is unique to me - it's branding. It took my husband, Arthur, about 30 minutes to make using Power Point
Local posts are an important part of our blogging strategy. We believe the maps we develop for each subdivision we promote is one reason for our local blogs being so effective.
This Lake Ridge map appears at the bottom of all of our Lake Ridge hyper-local posts and a similar map appears at the end … (64 comments)

31 days of may challenge: They're Back - 05/04/11 10:32 AM

The Festival at Lake Ridge is a Trammel Crow shopping center that has pink rose bushes in the medians along the main roadway. The lone rose bud above was photographed very late fall 2010. It was one of the only ones remaining and still showing a semblance of life and an opportunity to make one last flash of color.
Today, I was back at the shopping center and was pleased to note they are blooming away. As you can see, it has been long enough that some of them have already lost their petals. Regardless, I now know summer is just down … (20 comments)

31 days of may challenge: Enjoy Patriotic Music At Hylton Performing Arts Center On Saturday May 14, 2011 - 05/03/11 01:45 PM

As we approach the tenth anniversary of the massacre of 3,000 Americans at the destruction of the World Trade Center, damage and loss of life at the Pentagon and the "Let's Roll" heroes at Shanksville PA who prevented a larger catastrophe at either the Capitol or White House the Manassas Chorale will be in concert at the Hylton Performing Arts Center located on the George Mason University Prince William County campus.
To me, one of the highlights will be that selected vocally talented Prince William County elementary school students will sing with the chorale on several selections. Also, the chorale will … (16 comments)

31 days of may challenge: It's Been Workin' On The Railroad 107 Years - 05/01/11 10:26 AM

Built in 1904 the Manassas Railroad Depot has been serving commuters to Washington, DC ever since. The three black and white photos in the collage are representative of many others currently hanging in the waiting rooms. The fourth is a photo I took of the old telegrapher's office that has been restored A fire in 1912 destroyed the entire building which was rebuilt on the original foundation in 1914.The station was restored to its' original condition in 1997. Although I have not inquired I suspect the two waiting rooms were there as a result of segregation in Southern states. One … (26 comments)
