lake forest park: Sunday at the Lake Forest Park Farmer's Market
- 05/26/09 04:07 AM
Sunday couldn't have been a more gorgeous day, so headed on over to the LFP Farmer's Market after my workout at the LFP Gold's Gym this morning. The sun was shining, the LFP Commons parking lot was packed full of people, and good, fresh, locally grown food was in abundance. I had the pleasure of meeting Eric Rivera with Sound Bites Sauce and Spread Co., and who also attends culinary school and runs a fantastic food blog at www.ericriveracooks.com Here he is ringing up my order of Cabernet Pepper Crackers and Lime Reisling Oil:
Holy Guacamole, you really have to try this (0 comments)

I have noticed something from my perch here in North Seattle in regards the historic election of our new president, Barack Obabma, and that is this: Even people that don't necessarily agree with his politics, they seem to want to give him a chance and even more, the actually seem to genuinely LIKE him. With the exception of Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh, that is, but they are always an exception and thrive and make a good living on hate, fear, and agitation. I have some extreme right wing friends who have told me that even though it will be the (5 comments)

Were any of you aware that the speed limit on the Burke Gilman Trail is 5 mph slower than in the City of Seattle? Yes, while the rest of the city is fine with would-be Tour De France entrants zooming along at 15 mph, the City of Lake Forest Park has set up a de facto speed trap between Seattle and Kenmore with well hidden 10 mph signs along the way. I know that we fancy ourselves a sleepy little Suburb, but are we really 5 mph slower than the rest of Seattle? (0 comments)
Calling these cities " not just the best base camps for outdoor pursuits, but smart investments", the article is just another small feather in our collective skull caps. I consider myself fairly adventurous, am a Realtor, and I moved here, so naturally I concur wholeheartedly. Here are the top ten: 1. Seattle, Washington 2. Coos Bay, Oregon 3. Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii 4. Girdwood, Alaska 5. Hood River, Oregon 6. San Francisco, California 7. Joshua Tree, California 8. Leavenworth, Washington 9. Arcata, (2 comments)

Great to see all of you at the Obama Fundraiser in Lake Forest Park last night (especially You, Doug. Serves me right to leave my camera unattended...)
As promised, there was music, there was food (lots!), and a nice, positive vibe throughout the evening. The music ranged from a band of young rockers(sorry as I've forgotten your name. Call me!), to the mellow jazz sound of The Deems as night began to fall.
We were even treated to a rousing rendition of Yes We Can by the young fellas on stage with (0 comments)

As I set about my education into all things green and earth friendly (which has been exponentially accelerated by fellow blogger and my Newest Bestest Buddy Aaron Campbell of Campbell Energy), the one idea that I keep coming back to is, "How can I be the most environmentally responsible person that I can be.........reasonably". By reasonably, I mean without going out and forking over tons of money and spending gobs of time on things that may or may not improve my impact on the earth and my expenditure of energy. I think this (0 comments)

As a Realtor, it is easy to become frustrated with the lack of creativity or vision among builders. The rows and rows of similar looking, poorly made townhomes, particularly in the Greenwood area of Seattle come to mind.
In a culturally savvy area of the world such as Seattle, it is hard to believe that we have put up with so much monotony and blandness in our quest for urban renewal. To be fair, it is not all the builders' fault. The combination of high land prices and lack of oversight by city planners contribute to the problem. Builders are (0 comments)
Seattle, as usual, fared better than most of the markets around the country, but the trend is definitely a down one.
According to Zillow, King County Overall had a 6.7% drop in home values over the same quarter last year and 1.4 percent drop from last quarter:
Yikes! They had a 25.9% decrease in overall home prices over last year, and a 7.4% decrease over the first quarter of the year. Their median home prices are now back where they (0 comments)
lake forest park: Just what is "Market Value" these days?
- 08/07/08 05:26 PM
I was in Kirkland last night with a friend who is also an agent (Known within this blog as "Big Dan") and I noticed that in a certain Kirkland brokerage's window, there were several printouts of short-sales and pre-foreclosure properties. The short-sales were advertised as "50 to 100 thousand dollars below market value". I let out a (admittedly self-satisfied) chuckle and pulled Big Dan towards the window. "Take a look at this".
I wish I could say that Big Dan shared in my amusement but he was much more concerned with lighting one of his newly arrived Cuban cigars to (0 comments)
lake forest park: Edgar Winters is Back! At the Taste of Edmonds

You are probably eager to sample the different cuisines offered up at the various booths. Maybe order a gyro or a kabob and chase it down with a slice of pizza or maybe a rack of ribs. Sure, and that is what The Taste is all about. But were you aware that Edgar Winters is Back!
I didn't even know that he had left, or was ever here before. Heck, I didn't even know that he was still alive! Judging from his picture, I'm not sure that he still is. He always did look like he had one foot (0 comments)
When I entered the world of competitive BBQ a couple of years ago for fun, I had no idea how much a part of my life it would become, how many people I would meet because of it, and how many grown men would look at me with a look of awe and a tear in their eye and proclaim "Dude, that was the best meat I have ever had" just before giving me an appreciative bear hug.
Because of these types of reactions it so happened that I accompanied my friend and BBQ mentor Big Dan to a (1 comments)
Here in the LFP, we have been dealing with a clash of youth and authority the likes of which we have never seen. Yes, I am talking about the dreaded Longboarders of LFP. Actually, I may be overstating things a bit, but in the LFP we don't have gangs, homicides and the like, so these roving packs of teenagers on their ultrafast boards whizzing down our sloping hills does qualify as high drama.
I am of two minds of the situation (as I am about many things): On the one hand I marvel at the speed that these kids (0 comments)

As you are no doubt aware, a new law went into effect this month month banning the use of handheld phones while driving. (Damn, I should have have bought stock in Plantronics and Motorola 6 months ago. And sold my WAMU shares come to think of it) A study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found that drivers using cell phones are four times more likely to be in an accident. That study suggested that limiting cell phone usage to hands-free devices doesn't have much of an effect. Despite these findings, your legislature is requiring you to wear a headset (0 comments)
Richard Florida has penned a compelling new book titled, "Who's your city", which takes a look at the way that people choose the places they live and how that affects everything from their real estate to their families.
Florida's basic premise is that concentrations of creative capital are centered in what he calls "mega-regions" that include Boston-Washington D.C., Southern California, Northern California, and the area that he calls "Cascadia" which include Portland and Seattle.
He argues that the rise of the "Creative Economy" is making where you decide to live the most important decision of (0 comments)
Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln(Hardcover (Cloth)) by Goodwin, Doris Kearns Acclaimed historian Doris Kearns Goodwin illuminates Lincoln's political genius in this highly original work, as the one-term congressman and prairie lawyer rises from obscurity to prevail over three gifted rivals of national reputation to become president. On May 18, 1860, William H. Seward, Salmon P. Chase, Edward Bates, and Abraham Lincoln waited in their hometowns for the results from the Republican National Convention in Chicago. When Lincoln emerged as the victor, his rivals were dismayed and angry. Throughout the turbulent 1850s, each had energetically sought (0 comments)
