ocean county: Ocean County Voting and Results! - 11/04/08 12:07 AM
The death of democracy is not likely to be an assassination from ambush. It will be a slow extinction from apathy, indifference, and undernourishment. Robert Maynard Hutchins
We’ve heard the arguments, we’ve read the mail, and we’ve heard the recorded phone calls…now it’s time to do our part and cast our ballots.
Here in Ocean County, there are numerous local elections in addition to two statewide ballot questions on state spending and municipal judge appointments.
Polls are open until 8pm and turnout is likely to be heavy. Officials say if you are in line to vote by 8pm, you will be … (1 comments)

ocean county: What Do You Miss Most? - 10/13/08 08:00 AM

Fall has arrived at the Jersey Shore! The fall/winter clothes are out of storage and the comforters on the beds.
Being close to the Ocean, we enjoy a few extra weeks of warmth here at the Jersey Shore. But temperatures are cooling.
Summer is my favorite season, though the crowds at the Jersey Shore can be trying at times.
What I’ll miss most…
· The first Jersey corn at the farm stand
· The first Jersey tomatoes at the farm stand
· The warm sun that you can feel in your bones
· Cook outs and long … (6 comments)

ocean county: Don't Miss the Deadline! - 10/13/08 12:57 AM
This is not a political point of view. It is a reminder for all New Jersey residents to register to vote for the upcoming November 4th Election. The deadline is tomorrow October 14th. In addition to the Presidential race, we have one US Senate candidate to elect and all 13 seats in the House up for grabs. New Jersey also has two ballot questions to decide. One of the State constitutional amendments would require future state borrowing be approved by the voters.
and the other would allow local judges to serve in more than one municipality.

ocean county: Killer Rabbits and Pot Belly Pigs - 10/12/08 01:46 AM
The 14th Annual Pinelands Jamboree was a huge success...I got to pet a rabbit, large enough to put a real scare into Monty Python devotees, and I met Dottie, a pot belly pig about 6 months old…very cute! No lions, tigers and bears, but goats, ponies and fancy chickens! All the critters were courtesy of local 4-H Clubs. I grew up with horses, rabbits, chickens, dogs, cats etc, so I got to be a kid again! There were also crafts, books about the NJ Pinelands and its rich history, food, music and all things Piney! The Jamboree whet my appetite for … (6 comments)

ocean county: The Furry Victims of Foreclosure - 06/20/08 12:18 AM
Cute aren't they.  Well they need your help!  The Ocean County Board of Freeholders (NJ) is calling on the public to help nearly 100 kittens that have been turned over to the two local animal shelters.
They admit this is the time of year that litters of kittens are surrendered to the shelters or abandoned, but Freeholder Gerry Little says the number of surrendered animals has increased by about 30 % since last year.  Shelter supervisors say home foreclosures have forced many area residents to give up family pets when they loose their homes.
According to the state director of the … (10 comments)
