Can you do business without your computer? Well can you? I'll tell you unequivocally, as a full-time Realtor (r) I can't! Now pay attention! (I'm feeling bossy today) I really put a lot of strain on my systems. I create my own listing video tours, I store tons of photos, I create spread sheets, word documents, charts, Power Point presentations, check my e-mail, blog, update my web site, download more clipart, layout my real estate advertising, etc. Needless to say, it takes many different programs to run all these processes, and these programs don't always play nicely together. I recently found out some information that left me dumbfounded. I wanted to share some of it and find out if any of you have heard of this, and what ideas you may have to help with this situation. According to the Federal Reserve, as many of 1 in 12 families in the U.S. do not have a bank account. And their reasons are... They don't write enough checks to warrant having one.They don't like dealing with banks.They don't have enough money.Now here's the irony. I just read Broker Bryant's post called Look Me in the Eyes when you Talk to Me. It's an excellent post and story about making eye contact with the sellers, when you're on a listing presentation. I agree completely that we have to Connect with the sellers if we hope to develop a trusting relationship with them. I'll let you read his post, and the many related comments. Florida home buyers need relief from high property taxes! This is a statement we've heard far too often in recent years. In 1992, the state of Florida enacted the Save Our Homes act, for home owners who call Florida their primary residence. Under this act, home owners are able to claim the Homestead Exemption on their property taxes. With this exemption, $25,000 is deducted from the assessed value of a home, before taxes are calculated. Since cell phone numbers were made public, I made sure to register mine on the Do Not Call Registry. Since it is used for business, I had my cell phone number on my web site. But I kept getting solicitations from miscellaneous real estate services who were trolling the internet for suckers, I mean Realtors to harrass. I keep wondering, when I bring buyers to see a house, and compare the house itself, to the Daytona Beach MLS information, why I see not just discrepancies and mistakes, but sometimes what can only be defined as downright laziness on the part of the listing agent. A couple of days ago, while showing several houses, I found One that had no mention of the garage!?! For quite some time now, Wal Mart has been seeking approval from our City Council, to construct a Supercenter at the corner of Nova Rd. and Madeline Ave. On the surface, to some people, this may seem like a great idea; except for the fact that there are already two Wal Mart Supercenters, within 3 miles from this location. Governor Crist has declared a State of Emergency for all of Florida. We now have mandatory "burn bans" in some areas and the smoke is thick at my own house, which is about 30 miles from the closest burn site. 15 new fires broke out today! I spoke with a family member who lives in Jacksonville (approximately 100 miles north of us), and was told the smoke is extremely dense there, since they have fires to the north and south of them.
