huntsville tx: We Caught us a Big One: Well, it was a Fish - 11/08/09 11:20 AM
There are lots of things to do in Elkins Lake including fishing.  So, those of you who may have thought the title was a type of metaphor--well, it's literal.  (Except for the part about the fish being big)
Elkins Lake is nestled in the middle of the Sam Houston National Forest and it is gorgeous.
This video was taken while we were fishing on a lazy Sunday afternoon.  Sorry in advance about the squealing--turn your sound down--I was excited, what can I say.

huntsville tx: Elkins Lake Real Estate--After 29 moves--I Think I am Finally Home - 11/08/09 09:35 AM
Elkins Lake is my favorite neighborhood ever.  I have counted the number of times I have moved--the count, an embarrassing 29.  I am 46 years old and I am not running from the law, nor am I in the witness protection program.  Why so many moves?  Just life I guess.  Born in PA, undergrad in Wilkes-Barre PA, Masters in Greensboro, NC, SC, then TX and a lots of moves in between.
What does Elkins Lake have to offer?  3 private lakes (with fish--that you can catch), 2 pools, 2 playgrounds, lighted tennis courts, hoops (basketball variety) and lots of deer and … (0 comments)

huntsville tx: Huntsville TX Real Estate--True Value for your Dollar - 11/08/09 09:06 AM
Huntsville TX is a town of 35,000 about an hour north of Houston on I-45.  It was founded in 1835 and was the home of Sam Houston.  (We have the statue to prove it)

This is quite the imposing vista travelling north or south on I-45 in Huntsville.  At night, it looks as though he is glowing in the dark. (no extra charge)
My husband and I used to live on the outskirts of Ft Worth.  Don't get me wrong --I loved Ft Worth and all it had to offer.  What I love about Huntsville, though is that life here … (0 comments)

huntsville tx: It's a Beautiful Sunset Tonight - 10/19/09 12:24 PM
Ah...the wonders of working in a home office.  Coffee, made at home, tea with fresh rosemary and mint and the view from my porch just outside my office.  It sure is pretty!

There are so many "perks" to working from a home office.  This, along with the commute time, is one of the best perks.
Have you taken time to appreciate beauty today?  It feeds my soul.  I was reminded this past weekend that it is so important to take the time for yourself every now and then.  Sometimes we just need to "breathe."  Ahhhhhh.....Real Estate is alright!

huntsville tx: The Red River Rivalry--What a Game--Let's Hear it for Friendly Competition! - 10/17/09 05:00 PM
The Red River Rivalry--What a Game!
I really try to not get political--and believe me--in this area of Texas--Football is definitely political.   No one, however can dispute how hard each side fought--Oklahoma and Texas.  The Texas coach-Mack Brown, is always so gracious and supportive of his kids.  He always seems to remember just that--they are kids.  (Goddness knows they look younger to me every year!)  I think Mack Brown is a class act.
Texas A&M is not only political in this area---it's a religion.  Our house is dark red A&M brick, selected by the couple who built it as A&M Brick.  … (7 comments)

huntsville tx: Do the Right Thing--For Your Protection-Get a Home Inspection - 10/17/09 04:02 PM
Home Buying 101--Definitely get the home inspection.  Sure, you--the buyer--pay for the home Inspection, but that makes total sense so that you are the party who chooses your inspector.  The price of Inspections vary with the size of the house, whether or not it has a pool, a septic system, etc.  The price also varies with the market area.
In the Lake Conroe, Huntsville, Lake Livingston, TX market areas, inspections start at about $250.00.  Again, depending on the size of the home and amenities, the price fluctuates.  Be sure you have at least 2-3 or more Inspectors from which to choose.  Call them, … (3 comments)

huntsville tx: Elkins Lake Real Estate--I love, love, love my porch - 10/06/09 02:40 PM
I love, love, love my porch.  It is where my husband and I watch the world go by.  It's where we take our laptops and work, and where I play a lot of sudoku and maybe a glass of wine.  When we moved to Huntsville TX from west of Fort Worth, I told my husband, "what I want in Huntsville TX Real estate is a porch."  I want to sit out when it rains and not get wet.  (Moving from west of Fort Worth, I just wanted it to rain!)  I sure did get my wish.  I feel like the luckiest … (7 comments)

huntsville tx: Facebook, Facebook, Facebook--Judy, Judy, Judy - 10/05/09 04:59 PM
The title itself is the root of the problem.  It's a different world than Cary Grant's.  See--half of you don't even know who he is.  For the first time in my life (well, maybe not the first), I'm not the young one with the new ideas, taking the newest risks, trying the newest things.
That's it--it's a generation gap.  This is the point where I suspiciously start sounding like my parents.  I Facebook--But I can't be a part of the "Under 40 Social Networking Club" in my MLS Area-seriously, I can't.  For the first time in my life---really this time---I feel older.
So, … (6 comments)

huntsville tx: Huntsville TX Real Estate -Outlaws - Hey--You Can't Park There! - 10/04/09 02:57 PM

Okay, back to the story.  Anyway, they were tooling down the road from the clubhouse in their cool golfcart.  Well, I didn't have their new e-mail address, so I decided we would flag … (3 comments)

huntsville tx: Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie....then the Atkins Diet - 10/03/09 02:49 PM
Texas Rangers Baseball is winding down.  I am pretty sad about that.  I have really enjoyed the season.  It's a little disappointing that we (Texas Rangers) came in second, but the Rangers have a lot to hold their collective heads up about.

Great season, although there was quite the post All-Star break slump--which was the main reason we came in second.  Baseball is so much fun to watch.  You can watch kind of passively.  You can actually have a conversation during a game--unlike watching the NBA Dallas Mavericks (there is a "no-talk during the game rule")  My husband is quite … (1 comments)

huntsville tx: Tuna Salad a whole new way--doesn't sound fishy to me - 10/03/09 02:25 PM
Recipe Alert!
Okay, for lunch today I tried something new.  I decided I wanted tuna salad, but a new kind of creation.  Here goes:

-1 can well-drained can of tuna
-very finely chopped onion-about 1/8 cup
-montreal steak seasoning--just a dash
-balsamic vinegar-abiout 2 TB
-parsley-dried or fresh
-mayonnaise-about 2 TB or so (to your taste)
-garlic powder-dash
-few red pepper flakes
stir-place on Mrs. Baird's Bread (or any good white bread) add romaine lettuce--YUMMMMMMMMMM!
It is really amazing to me how tasty and how different it tastes than normal tuna salad.
Try it--I think you'll really like it!

huntsville tx: Huntsville TX--My Favorite Mexican Food and NO Swine Flu! - 10/03/09 11:16 AM
Huntsville TX--My Favorite Mexican Food and People!
My Favorite Mexican Restaurant in Huntsville TX--Los Panchitos!  It is good and oh. so reasonable.  Great food, great margaritas, happy hour and great people!
Some of my friends at Los Panchitos make an appearance like Jose.

Notice--I say "here's my favorite waiter" and then ask him his name.  That is funny.
When I video record Lupita
at the register, all of the sudden the amount of our lunch bill goes up dramatically.  I think it is the "Hollywood Complex."
See the outside of the restaurant

(Guess what restaurant it used to be.)
