Are there incentives for one to move a family from a large metropolitan environment like Toronto, to a more rural setting like Barrie Ontario? 
 

For my parents and many others back in the early 70's when Barrie had a mere 30,000 population, that incentive was comparatively affordable housing.
For my father, driving north from the big city to the under construction Holiday Inn in Barrie was a daily contrast for six months between a bustling city with horizons hash-marked by industrial smoke stacks and Barrie's unfetid sunsets where the tempo of living was more self determined. Toronto recently surpassed Chicago taking on the title as being North America's fourth most populous city.
Already the largest city in Canada, Toronto's new population estimate is 2.79 million — beating Chicago's 2.7 million people. The numbers do not include the surrounding metropolitan areas (Vaughn, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham etc.) which more than double that number again. While the number of inhabitants has doubled in the past 50 years, Toronto has not seen a major inter city transit or roadway expansion in that time.

The obvious reasons the Essa Woods project should not be given the green light, at least not at the scale proposed have all been stated and I agree totally with the concerns raised, specifically on the traffic issues that this will only amplify along one of the two existing thruway points from one side of the 400 highway to the other in south Barrie. Essa road is congested now and when the old raceway and former Molson Park lands are eventually developed, it will be further taxed.
