   Architects in the 50's and 60's offered something efficient, even utilitarian, for a burgeoning populace that was headed west in search of temperate climate, and for a little more land. The economy was booming, and Californians started businesses in specialty agriculture, oil, tourism, shipping, film, and after 1940 advanced technology such as aerospace and electronics. Rambling, open floorplans, no attics or basements, a carport rather than a garage, were de riguerer. The styles were beautiful in their simplicity.
