For what we pay locally in property taxes, I think it’s wise to understand how they are divvied up. In the North Shore communities of Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Northfield, and Glencoe, it’s understood that a large percentage goes to the schools. That’s why many of us moved here. Supporting a strong educational system is good for our children as well as our resale values.
The Village of Winnetka will be having a public budget meeting on October 29 and they posted this image which shows precisely how the taxes are spent:
